Mexico's Implementation Of The Biodiversity Convention And The Catagena Protocol In The Gmo Era: Challenges In Principles, Policies, And Practices, Juan Antonio Herrera
PhD Dissertations
Recent developments in genetic modification and the use of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) in agriculture have ignited a debate over the potential effects of these organisms on biological diversity. This controversy materializes in the clash between the international environmental and trade regimes. Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), such as the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) focus on the preservation of biological diversity and, in the case of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Cartagena Protocol), the safe transfer of LMOs. These Agreements encourage States to base national decisions to allow LMO imports on environmental and risk assessments using the precautionary principle. …

Immigration Reform In America: Past, Present, And Future, Thaddeus Coffman
Immigration Reform In America: Past, Present, And Future, Thaddeus Coffman
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
This paper examines immigration legislation throughout the history of the United States. The author has divided the focus of legislative activity into four main eras: the Laissez- Fair Era (1789-1875), the Anti-Asian Era (1876-1920), the National Origin Quotas Era (1921-1953), and the Illegal Immigration Era (1954-present). While these eras are not all inclusive, they are indicative of the main focus of legislation passed during their time. The author then compares the impact of major legislation passed during these eras to three current proposals aimed at addressing the increasing issue of illegal immigration: two versions of a guest-worker program and amnesty/legalization …
The Evolving And Challenging Roles Of Certain International Financial Institutions In Developing Countries Under International Law With Particular Reference To Nigeria, South Korea, And Brazil, Sunday C. Ogbodo
Theses and Dissertations
It is no secret that the developing countries and their fragile economies have been struggling all the way from the twentieth (20th) century into the twenty first (21 st) century. It is equally known that the roles of the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) have been evolving partly as a result of their internal developments, and partly as a result of external developments occurring in the international environment that they operate in. It is the realization of the foregoing, and with hopes of finding ways that the IFIs can positively impact the developing countries in their quest for sustained development, that …

The Impact Of Privatization On Economic Growth And Income Inequality In Developing Countries, Samuel Adams
The Impact Of Privatization On Economic Growth And Income Inequality In Developing Countries, Samuel Adams
School of Public Service Theses & Dissertations
In the 1960s and 1970s academicians, economists and politicians favored state ownership over private ownership in the production and provision of goods and services. By the end of the 1980s, however, there was a reversal of public policy from state domination of the production and provision of goods and services to private ownership and operation. This was due in part to what the World Bank referred to as "state failure”, which was characterized by inefficient service delivery, unprofitable SOEs, high government debt, and stagnant economic growth rates. Accordingly, privatization caught on in many countries as a policy tool to foster …
