Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The State of Georgia modifies the International Building Code through State amendments, to require a fire resistance rating between residential occupancies and all other occupancies. This fire and life safety analysis report will substantiate the necessity for the barrier in a mixed-use hotel occupancy. The first-half of the report addresses the prescriptive-based code requirements, reporting a compliant design was presented. Then the performance portions primary objective was established, maintain a tenable environment for egressing guest room occupants. Three conditions were evaluated to define a tenable environment, carbon monoxide levels, temperature, and visibility limits. Selecting the location of the fire required …

Construction Warehouse, Ben Johnson

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The purpose of this report is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the fire protection and life safety design of a warehouse building that serves a large construction project. The results and conclusions from this evaluation are documented herein and supported by analysis when necessary. The gross floor area per story of the construction warehouse is 39,000 ft2. This building is used as a warehousing facility in support of a large construction project. Rack storage of Group A plastics is permitted in this facility to a height of 20 ft. beneath a 24 ft. ceiling on the main floor. Shelf …

Fire Protection Analysis Robert And Margrit Modavi Center For The Performing Arts- Uc Davis, Jeffrey Paterson

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This document is the report of the culminating experience as part of the master’s program in fire protection engineering at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. This report contains a life safety analysis of the fire protection systems of a chosen project building. The building examined is the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, located on the University of California Davis campus. The building was constructed in 2002 where the first performance occurred in October 2002. A large portion of the report applies prescriptive code requirements to evaluate compliance with current codes and standards. The …

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis- Dell Medical School Academic Building, David Gramlich Jun 2014

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis- Dell Medical School Academic Building, David Gramlich

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report is on the Dell Medical School Academic Building located in Austin, Texas. The life safety and prescriptive based code requirements are summarized within this report. It also includes conceptual fire protection and fire alarm system design. This report mentions University of Texas System Owner’s Design Guidelines that exceed the required code requirements. This report was developed when the building was in the Design Development stage. Since, code deficiencies have been addressed, and changes have been made to the building during the remainder of the design process, this report does not reflect the actual construction or protection strategies used …

Fire And Life Safety Analysis- Cal Poly Recreation Center, Connor Mcgill Jun 2014

Fire And Life Safety Analysis- Cal Poly Recreation Center, Connor Mcgill

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The purpose of this fire and life safety analysis is to determine whether Cal Poly’s Recreation Center meets fire safety goals. The primary fire safety goal is to provide building occupants with an environment that is tenable and allows for safe egress in the event of a fire, and reduce the likelihood of any catastrophic fire event. This goal can be achieved by protecting the occupants not intimate with the initial fire development and improving survivability of those occupants intimate with the initial fire development, NFPA 101, 2012. A prescriptive-based design approach and a performance-based design approach are used to …

Comprehensive Fire And Life Safety Analysis- Moa Public Works Building- Anchorage, Alaska, Andrew J. Bigalke Jun 2014

Comprehensive Fire And Life Safety Analysis- Moa Public Works Building- Anchorage, Alaska, Andrew J. Bigalke

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report is a Comprehensive Fire and Life Safety Analysis addressing both prescriptive and performance based engineering analysis of the MOA Public Works building located in the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska. The Public Works building was originally built in 1997 under the code requirements of the Uniform Building Code, as a Type II-N building. An addition was constructed in 2002 using the International Building Code (IBC), 2000 Edition. A prescriptive analysis is performed using the requisite building code and standards currently adopted by the State of Alaska, and by the Municipality of Anchorage. The currently adopted building codes and standards …

Orangeburg Assembly Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses- Fire Protection And Life Safety Design Analysis, Justin B. Biller Mar 2014

Orangeburg Assembly Hall Of Jehovah's Witnesses- Fire Protection And Life Safety Design Analysis, Justin B. Biller

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Masters of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, a prescriptive and performance-based engineering analysis was performed on the Orangeburg Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The building was recently constructed and completed in 2013 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to serve as a center for education of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Biblical principles for daily life. More than 300 congregations throughout Georgia and the Carolinas will use the Assembly Hall for their semi-annual assemblies and conventions, with an estimated annual attendance of 190,000 per year. Prescriptive analyses were conducted based primarily upon the provisions …

Fire Protection Life Safety Analysis- Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, Kyle C. Leadon Mar 2014

Fire Protection Life Safety Analysis- Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, Kyle C. Leadon

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) shall be constructed, arranged, equipped, maintained, and operated in accordance with this report and applicable criteria to ensure a minimum level of life safety and property protection is provided from actual and potential fire hazards. The goal is to ensure the occupants are provided with an environment that is reasonably safe from fire. We accomplish this goal by protecting occupants not intimate with the initial fire development, and by improving the survivability of occupants intimate with the initial fire development. The protection described in this report takes on many forms, from active protection, such as …
