Geophysical Investigation Of Dewatering In Lolo Creek, Southwest Missoula, Montana, Usa, Akpofure Orubu Oct 2017

Geophysical Investigation Of Dewatering In Lolo Creek, Southwest Missoula, Montana, Usa, Akpofure Orubu

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Spontaneous Potential (SP), Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Seismic Refraction Tomography methods have been used to provide valuable information on the seepage pathways leading to dewatering of Lolo Creek and the subsurface lithology of the area. Results from the MASW and seismic refraction tomography studies show a bedrock elevation of about 35 m close to Highway 93 and about 27 m at the end of the 288 m East-West seismic line running through Lewis and Clark Drive. ERT results show a shallow high resistive geolectric layer underlain by low resistive layers. The Eocene bedrock …

Geology Of The Middle Member Of The Bakken Formation In Divide County, North Dakota, Mandy Brewer Oct 2017

Geology Of The Middle Member Of The Bakken Formation In Divide County, North Dakota, Mandy Brewer

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

The Upper Devonian-Lower Mississippian Bakken Formation of Williston Basin is a large unconventional oil and gas play consisting of a lower shale member, a middle member, and an upper shale member. The middle member is a production target because it contains porosity and petroleum expelled from the shale members around it. Variable production and sweet spots of the Bakken in the study area of Divide County, ND and 15 miles around Divide County in the USA prompted a closer look at middle member Bakken sediments. For this study, 606 wells were correlated and thin sections from two wells located 10.17 …

Property Sensitivity Study For Oil Recovery In The Bakken, Daniel Beach Apr 2017

Property Sensitivity Study For Oil Recovery In The Bakken, Daniel Beach

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

The upstream (exploration and production) end of the petroleum industry has experienced tremendous success over the past fifteen years by employing innovative ways to drill and stimulate new wells thereby greatly increasing production. Based upon these successes, there has been a shift to unconventional wells, where the cost for drilling and completing wells can be much more expensive. Most unconventional wells target tight rock formations having low permeability and porosity. As a result, these reservoirs require enhanced stimulation to improve recovery operations to establish profitable oil or gas production. These wells are drilled horizontally to maximize contact area in the …

Modeling The Effect Of Methane Vs. Carbon Dioxide Injection On Oil Recovery: Case Study: The East Vacuum Grayburg-San Andres Unit, Lea County, New Mexico, Charles Ohalekwu Apr 2017

Modeling The Effect Of Methane Vs. Carbon Dioxide Injection On Oil Recovery: Case Study: The East Vacuum Grayburg-San Andres Unit, Lea County, New Mexico, Charles Ohalekwu

Graduate Theses & Non-Theses

This project aims to determine if methane (CH4) injection is more effective and economical than carbon dioxide (CO2) injection in a conventional dolomite reservoir by using the East Vacuum Grayburg-San Andres Unit (EVGSAU), Lea County, New Mexico as a model. This was done by simulating a CH4 and CO2 injection system and estimating the economics for each. CH4 injection has not been done at the EVGSAU, however CO2 has been used as a method of enhanced oil recovery.

The EVGSAU is located on the eastern side of the Vacuum Field, approximately 15 miles northwest of Hobbs in Lea County, New …
