In order to protect the rights of seniors and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the United States government, through Congress, enacted the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. The Act ensures that there is equity for persons with disabilities in all aspects of public services including employment, education, transportation, accommodation, commercial facilities and businesses and communication (Federal Register, 2010). In this study, we focus on the problem of transportation of PWDs, specifically in Milwaukee County in Southeast Wisconsin. The study was initiated as a collaborative effort between UWM’s Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering team, UWM’s Director of the Rehabilitation Research Design …

Manufacturing Execution System (Mes) An Examination Of Implementation Strategy, Riley F. Elliott Jun 2013

Manufacturing Execution System (Mes) An Examination Of Implementation Strategy, Riley F. Elliott

Master's Theses

The priorities of executing the manufacturing orders generated by an MRP system are often in operational conflicts with the dynamics of the manufacturing floor. It is not uncommon for a given manufacturing order to reach the shop floor several weeks or longer after being "opened" by an MRP system where it may face a chaotic case of large queues, machine down-time, parts shortage, scrap problems and other resource management constraints. Many companies have resorted to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software solution to resolve these problems. This method first gained popularity in mid-90’s within the semiconductor industry. An MES approach …

Simulation Modeling For Integrated E-Supply Chain Management, Pornsarun Wirojanagud May 2001

Simulation Modeling For Integrated E-Supply Chain Management, Pornsarun Wirojanagud

Theses

E-supply chain management is an emerging area of interest as companies begin to explore the Internet's potential to restructure supply chain relationships. The environmental impact of e-supply chain management is a critical issue towards sustainability. This thesis discusses and models an integrated e-supply chain network accounting for material and information flows throughout the supply chain in order to analyze the environmental implications and tradeoffis with other system characteristics. The network structure has complex interactions between various entities. In order to understand and analyze dynamic performance, a discrete-event simulation approach is utilized. An integrated tool was developed using the Arena simulation …
