Process Improvement At "The Manse On Marsh", Kevin C. Manko Jun 2018

Process Improvement At "The Manse On Marsh", Kevin C. Manko

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The Manse on Marsh is an independent and assisted living facility that prides itself on providing life-enriching care for the elderly. Considering that the staff is essential to supply this care and turnover rates are a constant factor, the company would like to reduce the time it takes to hire new employees by at least one week. To facilitate this goal, process flow maps are utilized to assess the current state of the hiring process and metrics are applied to support future state design decisions. After performing a value added analysis and identifying areas of waste, a total of 20 …

Vial Of Life Redesign, Andrew Scott Heim, Marisonn Manalo Jun 2018

Vial Of Life Redesign, Andrew Scott Heim, Marisonn Manalo

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Cambria Anonymous Neighbors (CAN), a nonprofit organization assisting the residences of Cambria, hopes to standardize first responder procedures and make medical information easily accessible in case of a medical emergency. Currently the container costs $3.78. CAN would like to provide 2000 containers at a lower cost. After researching materials, acrylic was found to be the best option for the container material due to its low cost and durability. A laser cutter was used to cut the acrylic pieces, and then a set of step by step instructions were created to assemble the product. To reduce the cost of acrylic, the …

A Study Into The Production Efficiency Of Cal Poly Chocolates, Fernando Calderon Mar 2017

A Study Into The Production Efficiency Of Cal Poly Chocolates, Fernando Calderon

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The project objective was to: identify ways to reduce the production cost of Cal Poly Chocolates. The project was executed through the DMAIC approach, a data driven improvement cycle. Using several industrial engineering tools, six improvement opportunities were found. Three project deliverables were created and three process changes were recommended. The total annual savings, if recommendations are implemented, sum to $1700.

Haas Automation Umc750 5axis Mill Assembly Process Improvement, Mason A. Garcia, Gregory R. Gunion, Juan Pablo Quinonez Weston Jun 2016

Haas Automation Umc750 5axis Mill Assembly Process Improvement, Mason A. Garcia, Gregory R. Gunion, Juan Pablo Quinonez Weston

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

The improvement of the current assembly of the motor and casting components for the Haas UMC-750 5-Axis vertical CNC mill includes the evaluation, development and proposal of a new pair of material handling carts. To meet these deliverables, a student team began by assessing the assembly workstation, defining the problem to be solved, researching ergonomics in material handling equipment and drafting the final design of the improved cart models using SolidWorks. The final design considered the initial improvement request from the client, as well as better ergonomic features to enhance the safety of the operators. It was estimated that the …

Microfiche Digitization And Process Improvement For Cal Poly Senior Projects, Kyle Gaunt Jun 2011

Microfiche Digitization And Process Improvement For Cal Poly Senior Projects, Kyle Gaunt

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

This project addresses the need to digitize Senior Projects available on microfiche at the Cal Poly Robert E. Kennedy Library. Microfiche is an outdated document archival medium and is unfamiliar to most students, making Senior Project research inconvenient and frustrating to students. To make this process easier and more accessible to students, the University Library should consider digitizing its Senior Project collection and improving the current system in the mean time.

The Six Sigma DMAIC method was used to discover root cause problems of the current system, define performance metrics, and to develop data driven solutions for improving the current …

Process Improvement Of Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, Connie Chou, Brett Witherall Apr 2011

Process Improvement Of Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, Connie Chou, Brett Witherall

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

This report seeks to improve the operations of the Kaiser Permanente’s Central Refill Pharmacy. In particular, the need for better workstations became evident when witnessing the cluttered appearance of the packing workbenches in the facility. Furthermore, one of Kaiser’s largest problem areas is the physical strain caused by the repetitive motion required of the packing job function. A redesign of the packing workstations has been developed on Microsoft Visio in order to reduce clutter, be more space efficient, and decrease eye and arm movement associated with employee strain. The most significant additions are an automated slide that transfers packages from …

Process Improvement For The Department Of Surgery Sierra Vista Medical Center, Jessica Paz Jun 2010

Process Improvement For The Department Of Surgery Sierra Vista Medical Center, Jessica Paz

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

This report proposes and analyzes process improvement methods for the Surgical Services Department at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. The department currently operates with an average of 25% of elective cases starting on time. This can be attributed to a number of inefficiencies that occur throughout the hospital.

The following Industrial Engineering methods were utilized to improve patient flow:  creation of a data collection system to quantify delays  use of simulation and facility redesign techniques to determine feasibility and benefits of moving towards a surgical center model  development of a user interfaced database to record and analyze …

Leed Certification Workbook For Eco-Charrette Process Improvement At The Boeing Company, Wesley R. Fromm

Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Companies across the globe are greening their portfolios. In an effort to define green construction, the United States Green Building Coalition (USGBC) has developed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. LEED provides a means for measurement and accountability in sustainable design. However, the volume of information to be processed when considering a building's candidacy is daunting. The LEED Certification Workbook for Eco-Charrette Process Improvement at the Boeing Company takes on this task. By utilizing observations from Boeing's Shared Services Group in Seal Beach, California, the designed solution meets the requirements for an effective gathering of stakeholders in the …
