Reliability Analysis Of Hafnium Oxide Dielectric Based Nanoelectronics, Rui Wan Dec 2008

Reliability Analysis Of Hafnium Oxide Dielectric Based Nanoelectronics, Rui Wan

Doctoral Dissertations

With the physical dimensions ever scaling down, the increasing level of sophistication in nano-electronics requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary reliability investigation. A kind of nano-devices, HfO2-based high-k dielectric films, are studied in the statistical aspect of reliability as well as electrical and physical aspects of reliability characterization, including charge trapping and degradation mechanisms, breakdown modes and bathtub failure rate estimation.

This research characterizes charge trapping and investigates degradation mechanisms in high-k dielectrics. Positive charges trapped in both bulk and interface contribute to the interface state generation and flat band voltage shift when electrons are injected from the gate …

Reliability In Lean Systems, Robert S. Keyser Dec 2008

Reliability In Lean Systems, Robert S. Keyser

Doctoral Dissertations

Implementation of Lean manufacturing systems often turn into expensive hit-or-miss propositions. Whereas many organizations that lack immediate success quickly abandon their ‘Lean’ plans in hopes that the next great marketing panacea will solve their efficiency woes, organizations that experience early success often have difficulty in sustaining their Lean efforts. To further exacerbate the dilemma, knowledge of the reliability of Lean systems is currently inadequate. This paper proposes a contemporary Lean paradigm – reliability in Lean systems – through the development of an innovative Lean System Reliability model (LSRM). Principally, LSRM models the reliability of Lean subsystems as a basis for …

Person-Environment Fit And Readiness For Change: Exploring The Moderating Role Of Leader-Member Exchange And Perceived Organizational Support, Joana R.C. Pimentel Dec 2008

Person-Environment Fit And Readiness For Change: Exploring The Moderating Role Of Leader-Member Exchange And Perceived Organizational Support, Joana R.C. Pimentel

Doctoral Dissertations

This paper was aimed at investigating the interplay of multiple facets of personenvironment fit with individual readiness for change; and to expose potential moderators of this relationship, namely organizational support and quality of relationship with supervisors. The extant research on the relationships between person-environment fit and a number of individual- and organization-level outcomes reveals considerable discrepancies, mainly attributed to the measurement of person-environment fit and to potential moderators. With this in mind, moderated multiple regressions (MMR) were conducted in order to test the hypotheses of existing interaction effects.

The results revealed no significant interactions between facets of personenvironment fit and …

Demand Estimation At Manufacturer-Retailer Duo: A Macro-Micro Approach, Sirisha Saripalli May 2008

Demand Estimation At Manufacturer-Retailer Duo: A Macro-Micro Approach, Sirisha Saripalli

Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation is divided into two phases. The main objective of this phase is to use Bayesian MCMC technique, to attain (1) estimates, (2) predictions and (3) posterior probability of sales greater than certain amount for sampled regions and any random region selected from the population or sample. These regions are served by a single product manufacturer who is considered to be similar to newsvendor. The optimal estimates, predictions and posterior probabilities are obtained in presence of advertising expenditure set by the manufacturer, past historical sales data that contains both censored and exact observations and finally stochastic regional effects that …

Heuristic Procedures To Solve Sequencing And Scheduling Problems In Automobile Industry, Jingxu He May 2008

Heuristic Procedures To Solve Sequencing And Scheduling Problems In Automobile Industry, Jingxu He

Doctoral Dissertations

With the growing trend for greater product variety, mixed-model assembly nowadays is commonly employed in many industries, which can enable just-in-time production for a production system with high variety. Efficient production scheduling and sequencing is important to achieve the overall material supply, production, and distribution efficiency around the mixed-model assembly line. This research addresses production scheduling and sequencing on a mixed-model assembly line for products with multiple product options, considering multiple objectives with regard to material supply, manufacturing, and product distribution. This research also addresses plant assignment for a product with multiple product options as a prior step to scheduling …

Path Forward To Design And Implement An On-Going Engineering Management Handbook, Robert B. Kring May 2008

Path Forward To Design And Implement An On-Going Engineering Management Handbook, Robert B. Kring

Masters Theses

The purpose of this thesis was to determine a path forward to design and implement an on-going Engineering Management Handbook. A review was performed to establish a definition of Engineering Management, the history of Engineering Management, how this history has impacted the Body of Knowledge in Engineering Management over the years, and the current state of the Engineering Management Handbook. Two surveys were performed to discover how users perceive the Handbook. It was found that there was a desire for a useful on-line EM Handbook. This research allows for decisions to be made in the future as the Handbook is …

Demand Forecasting Model For Emergent Manufacturing, Naveed Ahmed Nasar Ahmed May 2008

Demand Forecasting Model For Emergent Manufacturing, Naveed Ahmed Nasar Ahmed

Masters Theses

Emergence of outsourcing and global partnerships has driven the need for emergent manufacturing. Emergent manufacturing is a concept and mechanism that allows manufacturing based organizations to mitigate the risk of outsourcing their manufacturing functions. The implementation of emergent manufacturing is on a rise and yet many industrial facilities have to decide when to switch to emergent manufacturing.

To achieve a strategic fit of emergent manufacturing with the existing manufacturing facilities is the current need of the Industry. There is a strong need to develop a body of literature and models specifically for this task.

This thesis aims to develop a …

The Engineering Management Online Handbook: An Evaluation Of Content, Stephanie Slagle May 2008

The Engineering Management Online Handbook: An Evaluation Of Content, Stephanie Slagle

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to gather a detailed understanding and encompassing list of topics for an Engineering Management Online Handbook. To better understand the profession of Engineering Management, the history of the profession is discussed. Although an Engineering Management Handbook currently exists on the World Wide Web, this study incorporates surveys of practicing engineers and current literature research. General perceptions and comments were collected from practicing engineers about the current state of the Handbook as it exists at the website of the American Society for Engineering Management (www.ASEM.org). It seems as though the main contributors currently are professors …
