Influence Of Energy Policy On The Rate Of Implementation Of Biogas Power Plants In Germany During The 2001-2010 Decade, Izabela Chasiak, Wojciech M. Budzianowski
Influence Of Energy Policy On The Rate Of Implementation Of Biogas Power Plants In Germany During The 2001-2010 Decade, Izabela Chasiak, Wojciech M. Budzianowski
Wojciech Budzianowski
The current article describes energy policy tools, which caused intensive development of biogas-based power generation in Germany during the 2001-2010 decade. The German system of financial support to biogas power plants is presented in details. It is shown that in Germany, i.e. in a country characterised by similar climate and potentials to renewable energy to Poland, biogas power plants cover 10,7% of electricity demands in 2010, while all renewable energy sources cover only 5,4% of electricity demands. It is emphasised that under favourable Polish energy policy, the development of biogas energy can be very rapid.

Parallelization Of Geant4 Using Top-C And Marshalgen, Gene D. Cooperman, Viet Ha Nguyen, Igor Maliutov

Geant4 is a very large, highly accurate toolkit for Monte Carlo simulation of particle-matter interaction. It has been applied to high-energy physics, cosmic ray modeling, radiation shields, radiation therapy, mine detection, and other areas. Geant4 is being used to help design some high energy physics experiments (notably CMS and Atlas) to be run on the future large hadron collider: the largest particle collider in the world. The parallelization, ParGeant4, represents a challenge due to the unique characteristics of Geant4: (i) complex object-oriented design; (ii) intrinsic use of templates and abstract classes to be instantiated later by the end user; (iii) …

Study Of A Nanoscale Water Cluster By Atomic Force Microscopy, Manhee Lee, Baekman Sung, Nicole N. Hashemi, Wonho Jhe
Study Of A Nanoscale Water Cluster By Atomic Force Microscopy, Manhee Lee, Baekman Sung, Nicole N. Hashemi, Wonho Jhe
Nastaran Hashemi
We present a novel method for investigating a nanometric cluster of water molecules, which includes the formation and manipulation of nanometric water, and the measurement of its mechanical properties. The atomic force microscope based on the quartz tuning-fork sensor is employed to form and manipulate the nanometric water, and the theoretical tool of amplitude-modulation atomic force microscopy is used to obtain the elasticity, viscosity and dissipation energy of it. With high vertical resolution less than [similar]0.1 nm and high force sensitivity of [similar]0.01 N m−1, this tool facilitates the stable formation and manipulation of a nano-water cluster ([similar]104 molecules) in …

The Nonlinear Dynamics Of Tapping Mode Atomic Force Microscopy With Capillary Force Interactions, Nicole N. Hashemi, H. Dankowicz, M.R. Paul
Nastaran Hashemi
We study the nonlinear dynamics of a tapping mode atomic force microscope with tip-surface interactions that include attractive, repulsive, and capillary force contributions using numerical techniques tailored for hybrid or discontinuous dynamical systems that include forward-time simulation with event handling and numerical pseudo-arclength continuation. We find four branches of periodic solutions that are separated by windows of complex and irregular dynamics. The branches of periodic solutions end where the cantilever comes into grazing contact with event surfaces in state space, corresponding to the onset of capillary interactions and the onset of repulsive forces associated with contact. These windows of irregular …

The Dissipated Power In Atomic Force Microscopy Due To Interactions With A Capillary Fluid Layer, Nicole N. Hashemi, M.R. Paul, H. Dankowicz, W. Jhe
Nastaran Hashemi
We study the power dissipated by the tip of an oscillating micron-scale cantilever as it interacts with a sample using a nonlinear model of the tip-surface force interactions that includes attractive, adhesive, repulsive, and capillary contributions. The force interactions of the model are entirely conservative and the dissipated power is due to the hysteretic nature of the interaction with the capillary fluid layer. Using numerical techniques tailored for nonlinear and discontinuous dynamical systems we compute the exact dissipated power over a range of experimentally relevant conditions. This is accomplished by computing precisely the fraction of oscillations that break the fluid …
A New Stochastic Model For Systems Under General Repairs, Huairui R. Guo, Haitao Liao, Wenbiao Zhao
A New Stochastic Model For Systems Under General Repairs, Huairui R. Guo, Haitao Liao, Wenbiao Zhao
Haitao Liao
Numerous stochastic models for repairable systems have been developed by assuming different time trends, and re- pair effects. In this paper, a new general repair model based on the repair history is presented. Unlike the existing models, the closed- form solutions of the reliability metrics can be derived analytically by solving a set of differential equations. Consequently, the con- fidence bounds of these metrics can be easily estimated. The pro- posed model, as well as the estimation approach, overcomes the drawbacks of the existing models. The practical use of the proposed model is demonstrated by a much-discussed set of data. …
Localized Charge Transfer In Csau·Nh3: 1h And 133cs Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Steffen Kramer, Michael Mehring, Anja V. Mudring, Martin Jansen
Localized Charge Transfer In Csau·Nh3: 1h And 133cs Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Steffen Kramer, Michael Mehring, Anja V. Mudring, Martin Jansen
Anja V. Mudring
We report results from 1H and 133Cs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies on CsAu·NH3. This compound has recently been synthesized and belongs to the family of ammoniates. The intense blue color of the material, which is not observed in the parent compounds, suggests that a charge-transfer electronic state is formed. The 1H NMR line shape and relaxation rates are found to be very similar to the corresponding properties in pure ammonia. However, the 133Cs-NMR properties of CsAu·NH3 strongly deviate from the corresponding ones in CsAu, and we show that the former can be interpreted consistently within a localized charge distribution …
