Micro- and nano-scale surface modifications have been a subject of great interest for enhancing the pool boiling heat transfer performance of immersion cooling systems due to their ability to augment surface area, improve wickability, and increase nucleation site density. Metallic nanostructures are of great interest due to their applicability in various modern technologies, such as catalysis, sensing, and optoelectronics. In this work, we employed three solution-based methods, including colloidal suspension synthesis, modified galvanic displacement, and electrodeposition, to synthesize nanostructured metals and transition metals, including gold (Au), copper (Cu), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co). Pd and its alloys are alternatives of Pt as promising catalysts and electrocatalysts for many reactions. Size controlled synthesis of nanoparticles remains a major research subject, since smaller size particles show better catalytic performance. In this work, we developed a modified chemical wet method to prepare Pd and Pd-Cu nanostructures with uniform small size. Different sizes and shapes of Pd nanostructures were successfully synthesized by using the two reducing agents (i.e., L-ascorbyl-6-palmitate or phenylphosphinic acid). Advances in the synthetic strategies of engineered nanomaterials, multifunctional molecules and polymers have opened pathways for the development of functional nanomaterials having unique optoelectronic, mechanical, and biological properties. Bent-core liquid crystals have attracted intense interest in recent years, exhibiting a wide variety of novel structural phenomena involving the interplay of chirality, molecular bend and molecular tilt. Freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy together with other experimental methods has been used to characterize the nanostructures of bent-core liquid crystal phases in which the molecules undergo complex self-assembly, forming, for example, helical nanofilaments (the B4 phase), disordered focal conics (the DC phase), and layer undulations (the B7 phase) in the bulk.
