Journal of Electrochemistry

The development of efficient and durable electrodes for anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) is essential for hydrogen production. In this work, 2D NiFe layered double hydroxides (NiFe LDHs) nanosheets were grown on the 1D cobaltous carbonate hydroxide nanowires array (Co-OH-CO3) and the unique 3D layered self-supporting nanorod array (NiFe LDHs@Co-OH-CO3/NF) electrode was obtained. Importantly, we demonstrated an efficient and durable self-supporting NiFe LDHs@Co-OH-CO3/NF electrode for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and as the anode of the AEMWE. In a three-electrode system, the self-supporting NiFe LDHs@Co-OH-CO3/NF electrode showed excellent catalytic activity for OER, …

Journal of Electrochemistry

Nano-array structure possesses promising prospect in power supply, optical device and electronic manufacturing. In this paper, a black nickel nano-cone array was prepared on a flexible substrate by galvanostatic deposition and the corresponding factors involved in the fabrication of nickel nano-cone array was explored. Experimental results showed that a large current density and low main salt concentration were not favored to the formation of cone nickel structure. It was also found that ammonium chloride, as the crystal modifier, was crucial to deposit the uniform nano-cone array. In addition, the growth mechanism of nickel nano-cone was further studied by molecular dynamics …

Research Progresses Of Cobalt Interconnect And Superfilling By Electroplating In Chips, Li-Jun Wei, Zi-Han Zhou, Yun-Wen Wu, Ming Li, Su Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Copper interconnect using dual damascene technology has always been the main means for metallization in the back end of line process. However, with the size effect becoming more and more obvious due to feature size reduction, copper interconnect can no longer meet the demand for high circuit speed in Post-Moore era. Following copper interconnection, cobalt interconnection in chips attracts much attention as an interconnect technology by the next generation, which has been introduced in 7 nm node of integrated circuit manufacturing and below. The electron mean free path of cobalt (~10 nm) is much shorter than copper’s (39 nm), thus …

Journal of Electrochemistry

Cobalt is widely regarded as the most promising interconnect material for 10 nm node and beyond. The development of a chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) slurry suitable for cobalt interconnect is a critical component for the application of cobalt interconnect. During CMP process of the interconnect layer, the achievement of high-quality surface after planarization is greatly challenged by the metal corrosion in CMP slurry. In this contribution, the corrosion behavior of cobalt in a slurry with potassium persulfate (KPS) as an oxidizer, glycine as a complexing agent, and benzotriazole (BTA) as an inhibitor was investigated. Static erosion rates (SER) of cobalt …

The results showed that the anatase-rutile phase transformation occurred during the heat treatment of TiO2 at 700 ~ 900 oC accompanied by the growth of two-phase crystalline size, and anatase was completely transformed into rutile at 900 oC. TEM results revealed that the …

Study Of The Chemical Fabrication Process Of Nsom Probes And The Modification Of The Probe Surface, Muhammad Nazmul Hussain

Theses and Dissertations

Near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) merges scanning probe technology with the power of high-resolution optical microscopy and provides a natural view into the nanoworld. NSOM requires tapered probes with subwavelength optical apertures and wide cone angles to efficiently channel the illumination light to the tip apex so that it can acquire optical images beyond the diffraction limit. Tapered probes with a range of cone angles can be fabricated through chemical etching of optical fibers using hydrofluoric acid (HF) by varying the etching time. Apart from their use for NSOM imaging, such optical probes can also be transformed into nanosensors by …

Journal of Electrochemistry

Ammonia is an important industrial raw material and a potential green energy. Using renewable energy to convert nitrogen into ammonia under ambient condition is an attractive method. However, the development of efficient photoelectrochemical ammonia synthesis catalysts remains a challenge. Perovskite such as BaSrTiO3 (BST) is a good photocatalytic material. However, BST is active under ultraviolet light and has a high recombination rate of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. By dispersing precious metals, it can effectively regulate the absorption of sunlight by BST. In this work, we used a two-step method to prepare BST. The H2PtCl6·6H2O …

The current status of the research in developing OER catalysts shows that NiFe-based oxygen evolution catalysts (OECs) have been proven as excellent and remarkable candidates for this purpose. But it is critically important to understand the factors that influence their activity and underlying mechanism for the development of state-of-the-art OER catalysts. Therefore, the development of in-situ/operando characterizations is urgently required to detect key …

Electrochemical Gelation Of Metal Chalcogenide Quantum Dots, Chathuranga Chinthana Hewa Rahinduwage

Wayne State University Dissertations

Quantum dots (QDs) are attractive because of their unique size-dependent optical and electronic properties and high surface area. They are tested in research for diverse applications, including energy conversion, catalysis, and sensing. Assembling QDs into functional solid-state devices while preserving their attractive properties is a challenge. Methods currently under the research are not effective in directly fabricating QDs onto devices, making large area assemblies, maintaining the high surface area by forming 3D porous structures, and conducting electricity for applications such as sensing. QD gels are an example of QD assemblies that consist of a 3D porous interconnected QD network. They …

The Profound Photophysical Effects Of Organic Chromophore Connectivity And Coupling, David J. Walwark Jr Nov 2021

The Profound Photophysical Effects Of Organic Chromophore Connectivity And Coupling, David J. Walwark Jr

Nanoscience and Microsystems ETDs

Through-bond and through-space interactions between chromophores are shown to have wide-ranging effects on photophysical outcomes upon light absorption in organic molecules. In collapsed poly(3-hexylthiophene), through-space coupling creates hybrid chromophores that act as energy sinks for nearby excitons and favorable sites for molecular oxygen to dock. Upon excitation with visible light the highly-coupled chromophores react with the docked oxygen and subsequently do not quench nearby excitons as efficiently. In tetramer arrays of perylene diimide chromophores the central moiety through-bond connectivity is synthesized in two variants which exhibit vastly different single-molecule blinking behavior and theoretically-predicted electronic transition character. In the more-connected tetramer …
