Identification Of Strong Tremor Causes For Appropriate Rock Burst Prevention In A Hard Coal Mine, Rafał Pakosz, Łukasz Wojtecki, Maciej J. Mendecki, Agnieszka Krzyżanowska

Journal of Sustainable Mining

The exploitation carried out in the Bielszowice part of the Ruda Hard Coal Mine is mainly accompanied by seismic and rock burst hazards. The occurrence of high-energy tremors may be associated with many factors, e.g., fracturing of thick layers of high-strength rocks or destruction processes of a stressed and/or thick coal seam. These factors are often combined when excavating a single longwall panel. Determining the causes of strong tremors is of fundamental importance for mining and rock burst prevention. The extraction of the 004z longwall panel in the top layer of coal seam No. 504 was designed in complex geological …

Micp Restoration Law Of Coal Mining Induced Ground Fissures And Its Influencing Factors, Li Tao, Gao Ying, Yan Jingwang, Zhang Jiarui, Kou Guigui, Ma Tengfei, Mei Aoran Nov 2023

Micp Restoration Law Of Coal Mining Induced Ground Fissures And Its Influencing Factors, Li Tao, Gao Ying, Yan Jingwang, Zhang Jiarui, Kou Guigui, Ma Tengfei, Mei Aoran

Coal Geology & Exploration

The coal mining induced ground fissures in the loess covered area of northwest China cause shallow groundwater resource leakage and soil instability. Therefore, the experimental study was conducted on Microbial Induced Carbonate Precipitation (MICP) restoration of coal mining induced ground fissures in the loess covered area. Specifically, the characteristics of mining induced ground fissures were observed and their development characteristics were revealed based on Ningtiaota Coal Mine in northern Shaanxi. The coal mining induced ground fissures in loess were classified with consideration to the observed mine pressure. Based on the classification and characteristics of coal mining induced ground fractures, the …

Influence Of Cutting Parameters On The Performance Of Plough During Hard Rock Cutting In Coal Mining, Sathish Kumar Palaniappan, Moganapriya Chinnasamy, Samir Kumar Pal, Rajasekar Rathanasamy Jul 2023

Influence Of Cutting Parameters On The Performance Of Plough During Hard Rock Cutting In Coal Mining, Sathish Kumar Palaniappan, Moganapriya Chinnasamy, Samir Kumar Pal, Rajasekar Rathanasamy

Journal of Sustainable Mining

Coal ploughs have proved very successful on many faces in various parts of the world. Recently, there has been a general tendency in longwall working to increase the speed at which the machine progresses along the coal face. An increase in production rate demands enhances either due to depth of penetration or cutting speed. This, in turn, results in increasing power demand and also the force acting on an individual pick. To get maximum efficiency from a cutting machine, a number of parameters need to be investigated. The first and foremost thing of interest is naturally the pick geometry. The …

Time Variability Of Methane Extraction From Hard Coal Deposits In The Upper Silesian Coal Basin (Poland) In Relation To Geological And Mining Conditions, Sławomir Kędzior, Marcin Dreger Jun 2023

Time Variability Of Methane Extraction From Hard Coal Deposits In The Upper Silesian Coal Basin (Poland) In Relation To Geological And Mining Conditions, Sławomir Kędzior, Marcin Dreger

Journal of Sustainable Mining

The extraction and economical use of methane from coal mines in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland (USCB) have shown a variable tendency in recent decades, with numerous fluctuations from year to year. In 2021, approximately 286 million m3 of methane was collected from coal mines, which accounted for approximately 40% of the total emissions of this gas to mine workings. Due to the fact that the economical use of coal mine methane brings environmental, economic and work safety benefits, increasing its extraction is an urgent need. Trends in changes in the amount of mined methane in the entire USCB …

Construction Of Geological Guarantee System For Green Coal Mining, Wang Shuangming, Geng Jishi, Li Pengfei, Sun Qiang, Fan Zhangqun, Li Dan Mar 2023

Construction Of Geological Guarantee System For Green Coal Mining, Wang Shuangming, Geng Jishi, Li Pengfei, Sun Qiang, Fan Zhangqun, Li Dan

Coal Geology & Exploration

Large-scale and high-intensity mining of coal resources has induced damage to geological conditions and ecological environment in coal mining areas. It is of great significance to study the coupling mechanism of geological structure-groundwater environment-ecological environment dynamic evolution caused by coal mining. Development of the theory and technology of geological guarantee for green coal development is also critical for ensuring the high-quality development of coal industry in China. In additional to the current coal mining technology, research status of geological guarantee for green development of coal is analyzed in this paper Scientific connotation of “system of geological guarantee for green development …

Characteristics Of Roof Water Inflow And Control Technology For High Intensity Mining In Dongsheng Mining Area,Shenfu Coalfield, Xu Feng, Jin Dewu, Yang Maolin, Wang Shidong, Huang Huan, Dang Yakun Feb 2022

Characteristics Of Roof Water Inflow And Control Technology For High Intensity Mining In Dongsheng Mining Area,Shenfu Coalfield, Xu Feng, Jin Dewu, Yang Maolin, Wang Shidong, Huang Huan, Dang Yakun

Coal Geology & Exploration

In view of the threat of roof water disasters in coal mining in western China, the water inflow data of 50 working faces are counted in Dongsheng Mining Area of Shenfu Coalfield, and five typical water inflow characteristics are summarized, which are dynamic recharge-led sustained growth type, the increasing first and then stabilizing type with “dynamic-static” reserves acting together, continuous stability of micro inflow, differential hydrogeological conditions locally prominent type, and the increasing first and then decreasing type dominated by static reserves. According to the law of each type of water inrush, the corresponding ideas and measures of water disaster …

Numerical Simulation On Mechanism Of Thrust Fault Reactivation During Mining, Min Feihu, Xiang Biwei, Liu Hui, Zhu Xiaojun Aug 2019

Numerical Simulation On Mechanism Of Thrust Fault Reactivation During Mining, Min Feihu, Xiang Biwei, Liu Hui, Zhu Xiaojun

Coal Geology & Exploration

It is a hot issue in mine disaster research about the activation of faults during the process of coal mining and excavation. In order to reveal the influence of coal mining on fault activation under different fault dip conditions, Xinji No.2 mine in Huainan coalfield was taken as an example, and numerical simulation with FLAC3D was used to systematically study the dynamic activation law of thrust faults during mining beside the faults, and to clarify the relationship among fault activation position and fault dip angle and excavated distance of working face. The results show that the fault activation is …

Assessment Of Potential Impacts To Surface And Subsurface Water Bodies Due To Longwall Mining, Christopher R. Newman, Zacharias Agioutantis, Gabriel Boede Jimenez Leon Jan 2017

Assessment Of Potential Impacts To Surface And Subsurface Water Bodies Due To Longwall Mining, Christopher R. Newman, Zacharias Agioutantis, Gabriel Boede Jimenez Leon

Mining Engineering Faculty Publications

Ground movements due to longwall mining operations have the potential to damage the hydrological balance within as well as outside the mine permit area in the form of increased surface ponding and changes to hydrogeological properties. Recently, the Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) in the USA, has completed a public comment period on a newly proposed rule for the protection of streams and groundwater from adverse impacts of surface and underground mining operations (80 FR 44435). With increased community and regulatory focus on mining operations and their potential to adversely affect streams and groundwater, now there is …
