The Problems Of The Silver Dyke Mine, Dale Irwin Hayes Jan 1936

The Problems Of The Silver Dyke Mine, Dale Irwin Hayes

Professional Degree Theses

"In a newly conceived mining enterprise serious operating problems may remain concealed until encountered in the actual early operating period of the property. The major problems of the Silver Dyke Mine were of this nature. This mine is the property of the Silver Dyke Mining company, a subsidiary of the American Zinc, Lead and Smelting Company. It is situated about five miles from Neihart, Montana. A three-and-one-half-mile trucking road connects the mine with a railway siding. The property is in the Little Belt Mountains, at an elevation of about seven thousand feet. The climate is severe, the winters long, and …

Commercial Mineral Waters Of North-Central Texas, Shirley Alfred Lynch Jan 1935

Commercial Mineral Waters Of North-Central Texas, Shirley Alfred Lynch

Professional Degree Theses

"The great increase in demand for mineral water the past few years has lead to the development of a new industry, the making of mineral water crystals. Wells that were abandoned as unsuitable for water supply, due to their salinity, have been cleaned or redrilled, in a frantic effort to supply the ever increasing demand of the crystal plants. The inevitable result is that their waters are being used at an alarming rate of consumption. The popular conception is that there is no end to the amount of charged waters that may be obtained, and, as a result, within some …

Dedusting And Preparation Of Screenings, Erwin Gammeter Jan 1935

Dedusting And Preparation Of Screenings, Erwin Gammeter

Professional Degree Theses

"There are a number of advantages to be obtained by the removal of fine dust and the proper proportioning and mixing of the smaller grades of coal. The dedusted coal is much better for mechanical stokers since it contains very little dust to drop through the grates or to be carried up the stack. The fuel bed is more open with the dust removed, combustion is better, and the draft is more easily regulated. Dust removal also increases the fusion temperature of the ash, reducing the amount of slag formed on the grate. Elimination of clouds of dust at points …

Personnel Relations, James Kneeland Richardson Jan 1935

Personnel Relations, James Kneeland Richardson

Professional Degree Theses

"The author has not attempted to portray an idealistic scheme in this paper. It is the result of personal experience among working men, listening to their complaints and grievances; and suddenly discovering that all any man asked was the right to be independent during his declining years; the right of free speech; the right to earn his living by working under good conditions; and the right to receive in compensation for his labor a fair and equitable division of profits on goods resulting from his work. All the points taken up in this paper are not common to one industry, …

Tax Depletion Problems Of The Tri-State District, Glenn A. Dooley Jan 1935

Tax Depletion Problems Of The Tri-State District, Glenn A. Dooley

Professional Degree Theses

"The passage of the Internal Revenue Act of 1918, with its articles affecting mines and mining, ushered in a new field of activity for the mining engineer. With the final adoption of the Act in February 1919, it became evident that an immediate valuation would be required; not as of the present date but, in the case of older mines, as of a date six years before. This retroactive legislation brought confusion to the operator and taxed the ingenuity of the engineer. The law provided that the value of the property could be subtracted from the income tax returns, as …

Sherardizing As Applied To Stampings From Light Gauge Metals, Matthew Patrick Brazill Jan 1935

Sherardizing As Applied To Stampings From Light Gauge Metals, Matthew Patrick Brazill

Professional Degree Theses

"Sherardizing, or dry galvanizing as it is sometimes called, is a process whereby articles of iron or steel are rendered rust proof by applying a coating of zinc. The coating produced by this process is first an alloy with the underlying metal. After this alloying action is completed the outer layer of zinc is deposited. Briefly stated, this coating is not a pure layer of zinc, but a zinc iron alloy"--The History of Galvanizing, page 1.

Foundations For Aquatic Oil Wells, Henry Emmett Gross Jan 1934

Foundations For Aquatic Oil Wells, Henry Emmett Gross

Professional Degree Theses

"During the past decade, man has found the courage to drill for oil at those forbidding locations which were made inaccessible by several feet of water. Some of the major fields of the world have been developed by this new manner of work, and others might have been added had the stage been set for the play. The most spectacular marine oil field development occurred along the Santa Barbara Coast of California from 1929 to 1931. It was the writer's good fortune to have been an assistant to Mr. Hans E. A. Gude, the field engineer of Pacific Western Oil …
