Fluorspar Mining In Kentucky, Walter Coffran Richards Jan 1911

Fluorspar Mining In Kentucky, Walter Coffran Richards

Professional Degree Theses

"The mining of fluorite, or fluorspar in Western Kentucky is one of the chief mineral industries of that State. As the number of mines and prospects is very great, a thorough treatise on the geology, mines, and methods of this district would make a large volume. This thesis will deal, however, with only a small part of the district, in which the mine operated by the author is located. Before going into detail, it might be well to mention a few points relative to the fluorspar industry in general. To the average person, fluorspar seems to be unknown. In fact, …

Underground Records, Robert Hardy Bedford Jan 1911

Underground Records, Robert Hardy Bedford

Professional Degree Theses

"It may save confusion to now state that "Underground Records" is used in sense of information regarding labor, supplies, and output of the underground proper, in distinction from "Costs" - a term here used for results of the sum total of all records after they have passed through the hands of the book keeping-accounting staff. The essentials of underground records are more or less carefully collected by all mining companies of any importance, but are too often, before they have come under the eyes of the mine management in intelligible or suggestive form, obscured by the addition of a "witches …

Mine Map And Geology Of Saltpeter Cave, Milan Harrison Detweiler, Frank Edgar Townsend Jan 1911

Mine Map And Geology Of Saltpeter Cave, Milan Harrison Detweiler, Frank Edgar Townsend

Bachelors Theses

"The date of discovery of Saltpeter Cave is not known and there is no way of determining it. Numerous accounts are given of the cave by the oldest settlers in the neighborhood, some of which are both startling and interesting. for instance, it is reported that the soldiers of the Confederate army visited this cave for the purpose of securing guano from which to extract saltpeter for use in the manufacture of gunpowder. This may be the origin of its name"--Geology, Page 1.

A Comparative Test Of The Air Consumption Of Rock Drills, John Elmer Schultz, Christian R. Miller Jan 1911

A Comparative Test Of The Air Consumption Of Rock Drills, John Elmer Schultz, Christian R. Miller

Bachelors Theses

"The aim of this thesis is an attempt to determine the relative efficiency, of four standard types of rock drills, as to air consumption. The air consumption was based upon the cubic inch of rock drilled by each machine. The orifice method of measurement being utilized, in connection with the exhaust to determine the desired consumption"--page 1.

Bachelors Theses

"The power plant tested for this Thesis is located at Lebanon, Missouri, on the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, and belongs to the City of Lebanon. The plant consists of two Brownell horizontal tubular boilers with a shell six feet by 18 feet, and each containing 70 four-inch tubes. The stack is 36 inches in diameter and at the time of the test, was broken off so that it was about 50 feet high. The boilers were fed by a steam pump, the water passing through a Cochrane heater. The engine equipment consists of one 10 by 12 inch …

Sulpho - Telluride Ore, David Lawton Forrester, Harry W. L. Porth

Bachelors Theses

"The problem considered in this work, is the determination of a suitable scheme for cyaniding a low grade Cripple Creek ore. For several years many attempts have been made to solve the metalurgical sic problem presented by such ores"--page 1.

Method Of Obtaining And Preserving Data On Churn Drill Holes, Ira Lee Wright Jan 1911

Method Of Obtaining And Preserving Data On Churn Drill Holes, Ira Lee Wright

Professional Degree Theses

"In prospecting for copper by means of churn drills it is absolutely essential that accurate methods of sampling be employed if any dependence is to be put upon the results. Of equal importance is the recording and preservation of data regarding each hole after results are obtained. This applies to such information as location and elevation of holes, depth, water level, geology etc as well as to the assays of the samples. Future underground development will be guided by information obtained from the drill holes and any incompleteness in the records will cause uncertainty in the development of the mine. …

A Study To Determine A Process For The Treatment Of An Amalgamation Tailing, Robert Bruce Mitchell, Edward William Engelmann Jan 1911

A Study To Determine A Process For The Treatment Of An Amalgamation Tailing, Robert Bruce Mitchell, Edward William Engelmann

Bachelors Theses

"The ore for this series of experiments is the tailing from the old ore-dressing mill at Missouri School of Mines. In undertaking the task of devising a cyanide scheme for this tailing we knew that we had no little amount of work before us, neither were we sure of success, for all attempts thus far to cyanide this tailing had failed"--page 2.

Evidence Relative To The Effect Of Mechanical Mixing Of Charges In The Fire Assay, James Keller Beach Jan 1911

Evidence Relative To The Effect Of Mechanical Mixing Of Charges In The Fire Assay, James Keller Beach

Bachelors Theses

"While mixing has always been suggested in the text books, on assaying, yet it seems that experimental data as to the effect of lack of mixing, or insufficient mixing, is not available. This thesis was conducted in an effort to determine just what variation and irregularity in the fusion of gold and silver ore was caused by non-mixing; i. e., whether the fusion took place in the same length of time, whether the fusion was complete, whether the values were collected and, in general, just what irregularities were incurred"--Statement of the Problem, page 2.

The Design Of A Sampling Mill To Treat A South East Missouri Lead Ore, Robert Nathaniel Copeland, Edwin Cook Mcfadden

Bachelors Theses

"The purpose of the work that was undertaken in preparing this thesis was to provide plans and specifications for a sampling mill to be erected by the St. Louis Smelting and Refining Co. at their plant near St. Francois, Mo... It was intended at the outset to design the plant completely and to provide full working drawings and specifications for all parts of the mill. On account of the lack of time, however, it has been found necessary to somewhat reduce the amount of work. As a result only general plans and specifications with a few of the more important …

Friction Of Air In Small Pipes And Fittings, Bejamin H. Cody, Ernest J. Allen Jan 1911

Friction Of Air In Small Pipes And Fittings, Bejamin H. Cody, Ernest J. Allen

Bachelors Theses

"The work of Park and Peterson during 1909-10 at the Missouri School of Mines revealed the fact that more data are needed concerning the loss of pressure due to elbows and other fittings of pipes under three inches in size. Accordingly, we decided to undertake the continuation of their work as a thesis. The apparatus used was practically the same as used in the previous thesis"--page 1.

Design And Details Of Construction For A 50-Ton Amalgamation, Concentration, And Cyaniding Mill, Hector Julio Boza, Carlos Enrique Elmore Y Guerra

Bachelors Theses

"Our problem is to design and provide for the construction of a mill to cyanide a certain gold ore. Full laboratory experiments have been made on the ore and on the results of these tests together with the consideration of the conditions of locality, transportation facilities, and labor available we have based the design of our mill. Our aim has been to so design the mill that the capacity may be increased without necessitating any change of arrangement in the part already constructed. To increase the capacity up to 100 tons practically the only additional equipment required will be in …
