For offshore wind industry, exploiting the dynamic behaviors of mooring lines is of increasing importance in floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) mooring system design. Currently, the design philosophy for structures and moorings is based on principles and practices adopted in offshore oil and gas, including mooring systems that are optimized for applications in deeper waters. However, the design of FOWT mooring systems is facing several challenges, including installation costs, the stability of light-weight minimalistic platforms, and shallow water depths (50-300m). An audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) survey has been performed at Cepu oil field located in Indonesia. The objective of this research is to detect resistivity structures of this important hydrocarbon rock. Adsorption of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution using activated carbon prepared from Limonia acidissima fruit shell (LAFS-AC) was conducted in batch mode experiments at pH 5 (±0.15), 100 rpm and 1 atm. The effects of contact time, initial Cu(II) ions concentration, KOH concentration, and adsorption temperature on Cu(II) ions adsorption capacity were investigated. This research aims to get optimal chimneys height of double pots biomass stove. Optimal chimneys height needs to provide best performance of the stove. Experimental study was done by varied the chimney heights. Water boiling test as the standard method was used to obtained stove performance for each chimney height variation. The results showed that best performance stove was the one with 1.65 cm chimney height, with thermal efficiency at 37.66%.

Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of an initially quiescent coupled air-water interface driven by an air flow with free stream speed of 5 m/s have been conducted. The DNS solves a scalar advection-diffusion equation for dissolved gas (or scalar) concentration in order to determine the impact of the water-side turbulence on scalar (mass) transfer from the air side to the water side and subsequent vertical transport in the water column. In this thesis, a hydrodynamic model was developed to study the vulnerability of the transportation infrastructure in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia to storm surge flooding under sea level rise. The Hampton Roads region is the second most affected area by relative sea level rise in the United States. In this paper, the feasibility of using aluminum alloy 5083 as a replacement for currently used stainless steel SUS 304L on hydraulic gate is evaluated. Relevant properties of these two materials are compared for use in hydraulic gates. Forty common types of hydraulic gates were analyzed through the finite element program PLAXIS 3D Foundation. It shows the weight for most types of hydraulic gates with aluminum alloy 5083 is in the range of 37.6-45.9% of that of stainless steel SUS 304L. Almost all bolted connections are eccentrically loaded. The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) permits the use of elastic and instantaneous center of rotation (IC) methods to analyze eccentric bolted connections. The elastic method normally yields relatively conservative designs and the IC method, which provides more realistic analyses, is rather complex and tedious. The current AISC manual provides tables for determining coefficient C, which is used to obtain the design strength of bolt group patterns. This study develops an analytical solution for oblique wave scattering by a submerged porous breakwater with a leeside partially reflecting vertical wall. The matched eigenfunction expansion method is used to develop the analytical solution. The whole fluid domain is divided into three regions according to the geometries of the structures. The series solution of the velocity potential in each region is obtained by the separation of the variables, and the unknown expansion coefficients are determined using the pressure and velocity continuous conditions on interfaces of different regions. In this study, polyurethane (PU) films from palm kernel oil-based polyester (PKO-p) incorporated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) are prepared via a evaporative casting method. Nanoparticle fluid dispersions containing 0.02%, 0.03%, and 0.05% wt. of MWNTs are added into PKO-p based resin and mixed by digital probe sonicator for 30 min followed by mixing with isocyanate to produce PU-MWNTs composite films. Bio ethanol is one of the potential fuels in the future. However, ethanol in water mixture has an azeotropic concentration of 95.6 wt. %, which makes it difficult to purify further. The common method of purification is by using an azeotropic distillation column, which requires an intensive energy and an addition of specific solvent. We present a systematic scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) study of bias-dependent imaging of disulfur diarylethene (2S-DE) molecules on octanethiol (C8) monolayer at room temperature. In a rigid confinement of the C8 matrix, we did not observe any significant variation in the appearance of the 2S-DE. On the contrary, a reversal in the apparent height of the 2S-DE was present when the molecule was situated on a gold vacancy island. Measurements of residual stress on the 57Fe25Cr15Ni steel plate with no-filler TIG-welding process were carried out. This work was conducted to determine the nature of weld ability in synthesized steel. The bulks were formed in a dimension of 30x20x7 mm3 to ease data retrieval. Results show that the largest residual stress occurred in the weld metal area, amounting to 82.40 MPa with lattice stretching of 0.18%. Conversely, the values decreased to 65.92 MPa and a stretch of 0.14% in the HAZ area. This residual stress is a tensile stress that can reduce the mechanical strength of the material since it …

The characterization of biopolymer-based solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) has been carried out in this present work. Cellulose derivative was chosen due to its superior physical attributes. In this work, NH4Br-doped glycerol plasticized carboxyl methylcellulose-based SPEs were successfully prepared via the solution casting method. The conductivity and dielectric properties of the prepared films were investigated using the impedance analysis which presented ~1.91×10-3 Scm-1 (with addition of 6 wt% of glycerol). This project was proposed by Dr. Brian Paavo through a desire to more easily study the benthic sediment layers of the ocean. To do so, he asked us to build a simple and compact machine for use in sediment profile imagery (SPI). Although devices like this already exist, they are all large scale devices that require a ship with a crane to deploy, which is expensive and time consuming. Our team Ocean Locomotion succeeded in developing a first iteration of an underwater robotic platform suitable for microbial fuel cell integration.
