This paper describes the design, fabrication and analysis a five axes articulated robotic manipulator. The current work is undertaken by considering various commercially available robotic kits to design and fabricate a five degree of freedom (D.O.F) arm. Forward kinematic model has been presented in order to determine the end effectors position and orientation. Although this work is still in primary level, this analysis is useful for path tracking of an industrial manipulator with pick-and-place application. Based on this analysis, a researcher can develop path tracking behaviour of an end effector in complicated work space.

Bone drilling is a common procedure to prepare an implant site during orthopaedic surgery. An increase in temperature during such a procedure can result in thermal ostenecrosis which may delay healing or reduce the stability of the fixation. Therefore it is important to minimize the thermal invasion of bone during drilling. The objective of this paper is to present an approach for successful supplier selection process by understanding the dynamics between Supplier selection process enablers (SSPEs). Using Interpretive structure modeling (ISM) methodology, the research presents a Hierarchy-based model and mutual relationships among SSPEs. The paper also shows that there is a group of SSPEs having a high driving power & low dependency and high dependency & low driving power. This categorization acts as a useful tool for Managers to differentiate between independent and dependent SSPEs which ensures the selection of suitable supplier by focusing on the key enablers.

This paper discusses the implementation of Six-sigma methodology in reducing rejection in a welding electrode manufacturing industry. The Six-sigma DMAIC (define– measure – analyse –improve – control) approach has been used to achieve this result. This paper explains the step-by-step approach of Six-sigma implementation in this manufacturing process for improving quality level. Depending on various independent studies, researchers have concluded that only onefifth of all QI projects show attractive output. The reason for this disappointing result is most of the QI programs are not result oriented. An unkempt inventory can take up to one-third of an organization’s annual investment. Measurements have been conducted for experimentally determining the heat transfer co-efficient of a commercially available heat sink employed in electronic circuits. For determining the heat transfer coefficient the chip is replaced with a heating coil. The power input to the heating coil is obtained by measuring the input voltage and current. Temperature measurement for varying heat inputs is done using RTD thermocouples. Heat transfer co-efficient is computed from the measured data. The objective of the present work was to investigate the effects of the various machining (turning) process parameters on the machining quality and to obtain the optimal sets of process parameters so that the quality of machined parts can be optimized. The working ranges and levels of the machining process (turning) parameters are found using three factors. Cutting speed (Vc - m/min), feed rate (f – mm/rev) and depth of cut (d - mm).
