A Platinum Nanowire Network As A Highly Effective Current Collector For Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Hanping Ding, Xingjian Xue

Xingjian "Chris" Xue

We report the fabrication and evaluation of a platinum nanowire network as a highly efficient current collector for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The ink of carbon-black supported platinum nanoparticles was sprayed onto the cathode. After firing, the carbon black was oxidized and disappeared as carbon dioxide gas while the platinum nanoparticles connect with one another, forming a tree-branch-like nanowire network. The diameters of the nanowires range from 100 nm to 400 nm. Compared to a conventional platinum paste current collector, the polarization resistance of the PrBaCo2O5+δ (PBCO) cathode with a nanowire current collector was reduced ...

Preparation Of La0.8sr0.2ga0.83mg0.17o2.815 Powders By Microwave-Induced Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Solution Polymerization, Yuling Zhai, Chang Ye, Feng Xia, Jianzhong Xiao, Lei Dai, Yifan Yang, Yongqian Wang Apr 2015

Preparation Of La0.8sr0.2ga0.83mg0.17o2.815 Powders By Microwave-Induced Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Solution Polymerization, Yuling Zhai, Chang Ye, Feng Xia, Jianzhong Xiao, Lei Dai, Yifan Yang, Yongqian Wang

Dr. Chang Ye

A new and simple chemical route, named microwave-induced poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution polymerization, has been used to prepare fine, homogeneous and high-density pellets of purer La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.83Mg0.17O2.815 (denoted as LS0.2GM0.17). The effect of different contents of PVA as the polymeric carrier, was studied and we obtained an optimal amount of PVA (1.65:1 ratio of positively charged valences of the cations (Men+) to negatively charged hydroxyl (–OH−) groups of the organics), which could ensure homogenous distribution of the metal ions in the polymeric network structure and inhibit segregation. The behavior of the ...

A Microwave-Induced Solution-Polymerization Synthesis Of Doped Lagao3 Powders, Yuling Zhai, Chang Ye, Jianzhong Xiao, Lei Dai

Dr. Chang Ye

A new method, called the microwave-induced solution-polymerization synthesis (denoted as MW), and the conventional Pechini (denoted as PH) method have been used to prepare powders of La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.83Mg0.17O2.815 (denoted as LS0.2GM0.17) and La0.8Sr0.2(Ga0.9Co0.1)0.83Mg0.17O2.815(denoted as LS0.2GCM0.17). A higher heating rate and a more homogenous heating manner without thermal gradients in the microwave oven resulted in a pure LSGCM powder after calcination at 1400 °C for 9 hours (h) and purer LSGM (6.2% secondary phases). The grain size of the pellets of the ...

Synthesis And Characterization Of Sr-And Mg-Doped Lagao_3 Powders By Polyvinylpyrrolidone Microwave-Induced Solution Polymerization, Chang Ye, Yuling Zhai, Jian-Zhong Xiao Apr 2015

Synthesis And Characterization Of Sr-And Mg-Doped Lagao_3 Powders By Polyvinylpyrrolidone Microwave-Induced Solution Polymerization, Chang Ye, Yuling Zhai, Jian-Zhong Xiao

Dr. Chang Ye

A new chemical route, named microwave-induced polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) solution polymerization, has been used to prepare La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.83Mg0.17O2.815(denoted as LS0.2GM0.17) powder. The effect of different contents of PVP as the polymeric carrier was studied and we obtained the optimum amount of PVP,which could ensure the homogenous distribution of the metal ions in its polymeric network structure and inhibit their segregation from the solution. The behavior of the powder after calcination at different temperatures was studied. The PVP solution process consumed less organics compared with traditional Pechini process.Consequently,PVP was a more effective ...

Modeling Of Chemical-Mechanical Couplings In Anode-Supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cells And Reliability Analysis, Xinfang Jin, Xingjian Xue Mar 2015

Modeling Of Chemical-Mechanical Couplings In Anode-Supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cells And Reliability Analysis, Xinfang Jin, Xingjian Xue

Xingjian "Chris" Xue

Oxygen ionic transport in conducting ceramics is an important mechanism enabling solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology. The multi-physicochemical processes lead to the fact that the distribution of oxygen vacancy site fraction is not uniform in a positive-electrode electrolyte negative-electrode (PEN) assembly. Different oxygen vacancy concentrations induce different volumetric expansion of ceramics, resulting in complicated chemical–mechanical coupling phenomena and chemical stress in SOFCs. In this research, a mathematical model is developed to study oxygen ionic transport induced chemical stress in an SOFC. The model is validated using experimental polarization curves. Comprehensive simulations are performed to investigate chemical stress distribution ...

La0.7Sr0.3Fe0.7Ga0.3O3-Δ As Electrode Material For A Symmetrical Solid Oxide Fuel Cell, Zhibin Yang, Yu Chen, Chao Jin, Guoliang Xiao, Minfang Han, Fanglin Chen

Fanglin Chen

In this research, La0.7Sr0.3Fe0.7Ga0.3O3−δ (LSFG) perovskite oxide was successfully prepared using a microwave-assisted combustion method, and employed as both anode and cathode in symmetrical solid oxide fuel cells. A maximum power density of 489 mW cm−2 was achieved at 800 °C with wet H2 as the fuel and ambient air as the oxidant in a single cell with the configuration LSFG|La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.83Mg0.17O3−δ|LSFG. Furthermore, the cells demonstrated good stability in ...

Study Of A Renewable Biomass Powered Sofc, Yunhui Gong, Andrew Chien, Zhengping Mao, Kevin Huang

Kevin Huang

The objective of this work is to explore a solution to utilize biomass carbon by a tubular solid oxide fuel cell integrated with an "in-situ" steam gasification reactor. Non-catalyzed and catalyzed coconut shell carbons were employed as solid fuels, which were directly converted to gaseous fuels to feed the SOFC operated at 800°. Single cells showed variable electrochemical performances according to the catalytic additives. Sample without catalysts exhibited low power density, while those with catalysts such as Fe2O3 and K2CO3 showed higher performances. The enhanced cell performance with catalysts was considered to be the ...
