A novel 3D position estimation system has been developed that uses the difference in the time-of-arrivals (TOA) of an ultrasonic wave from a single transmitter to numerous receivers fixed in 3D space. This is a different approach to traditional systems that use the actual time-of-flights (TOF) from the transmitter to the different receivers and triangulate the position of the transmitter. Coal spirals are widely used in coal preparation plants in Illinois and around the world to clean fine coal, typically in the 1 × 0.15 mm size range. Despite their popularity and the trend toward increased automation in modern coal preparation plants, adjustments to the critical process variable for coal spirals, that is, product splitter position, continue to be done manually. Tamoxifen (TAM) is a selective estrogen receptor modulator employed in the treatment of breast cancer. It is a prodrug with a complex metabolic pathway involving several phase I and II metabolic enzymes. TAM is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes to N-desmethyltamoxifen (NDM), 4-hydroxytamoxifen (4OHT) and endoxifen (END) with 4OHT and END being the active metabolites of TAM. CYP2D6 and CYP3A4/5 comprises the major CYP isoforms mediating the metabolism of TAM although other CYP isoforms also play a role. Polymorphisms present in genes encoding these CYP enzymes may influence the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of TAM and its metabolites.

This paper presents high-throughput techniques for implementing FSM based string matching hardware on FPGAs. By taking advantage of the fact that string matching operations for different packets are independent, a novel multi-threading FSM design is presented, which dramatically increases the FSM frequency and the throughput of string matching operations. In addition, design techniques for high-speed interconnect and interface circuits for the proposed FSM are also presented. Experimental results conducted on FPGA platforms are presented to study the effectiveness of the proposed techniques and explore the trade-offs between system performance, strings partition granularity and hardware resource cost.

Electroactive polymers undergo physical deformation to external voltage stimuli. These electrically activated polymers possess extraordinary features making them capable as lightweight sensors and actuators in manifold applications. An Economical Vision-Based Method To Obtain Whole-Field Deformation Profiles, Tsuchin Chu, Ajay Mahajan, Chi Liu

Measurement of whole-field deformation profiles is an important design as well as a health monitoring issue for mechanical and civil infrastructures. This paper reports the results of using digital image correlation to obtain surface deformation profiles. This is accomplished by correlating optical image sets obtained under various loading conditions. The method is demonstrated on a particulate composite with imbedded solid particles. The images are extracted from a VHS video of a tensile test, and have a resolution of 640x480 pixels. Similar images have also been taken using a simple off-the-shelf CCD camera

This paper presents the development of an improved stone retrieval device that uses a newly designed cage of Nitinol wires encompassing a mesh basket made of a material that is laser resistant. Current methods to extract large stones involve imaging, using a laser to fragment the stones and then using existing cage-like baskets to trap the fragments individually and extracting them one at a time. Spiral concentrators have been widely used in coal preparation plants in Illinois and elsewhere to clean 1 mm ×150 μm particle size coal fraction. The major factors which have made spiral concentrator so popular include its low capital and operating cost, no chemical reagent or dense medium requirement, and the ease of operation/maintenance.
