Techniques For Developing Large Scale Fuzzy Logic Systems, Jon C. Ervin, Sema E. Alptekin Nov 2008

Techniques For Developing Large Scale Fuzzy Logic Systems, Jon C. Ervin, Sema E. Alptekin

Sema E. Alptekin

In this paper, we describe various techniques used to make Intuitionistic Fuzzy Logic Systems amenable to operating on applications with large numbers of inputs. A rule reduction technique known as Combs method is combined with an automated tuning process based on Particle Swarm Optimization. A second stage of tuning on rule weights results in improved performance and further reduction in the size of the rule-base. The entire process has been developed to operate within the Matlab software environment. The technique is tested against the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Database. The use of these tools shows great promise in significantly expanding the ...

Development Of A Mechatronics Design Studio, Sema E. Alptekin Aug 2008

Development Of A Mechatronics Design Studio, Sema E. Alptekin

Sema E. Alptekin

Mechatronics is a combination of mechanics, electronics and information technology intended to raise the intelligence level and flexibility of products and devices. There is a need to develop programs and laboratories in Mechatronics to create an understanding of how new technologies influence the traditional methods of designing products and manufacturing systems. A model "Mechatronics Design Studio" has recently been developed to support the Mechatronics and Manufacturing Automation courses offered at Cal Poly's Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department. Laboratory experiments have been developed and several student projects have been completed. In this paper, an overview of the design studio and ...

Uncertainty Analysis In Mcp-Based Wind Resource Assessment And Energy Production Estimation, Matthew Lackner, Anthony L. Rogers, James F. Manwell Jul 2008

Uncertainty Analysis In Mcp-Based Wind Resource Assessment And Energy Production Estimation, Matthew Lackner, Anthony L. Rogers, James F. Manwell

Matthew Lackner

This paper presents a mathematical framework to properly account for uncertainty in wind resource assessment and wind energy production estimation. A meteorological tower based wind measurement campaign is considered exclusively, in which measurecorrelate- predict is used to estimate the long-term wind resource. The evaluation of a wind resource and the subsequent estimation of the annual energy production (AEP) is a highly uncertain process. Uncertainty arises at all points in the process, from measuring the wind speed to the uncertainty in a power curve. A proper assessment of uncertainty is critical for judging the feasibility and risk of a potential wind ...

Writing Research Proposal: Literature Review And Database Search, Mamoudou H. Dicko Prof. May 2008

Writing Research Proposal: Literature Review And Database Search, Mamoudou H. Dicko Prof.

Pr. Mamoudou H. DICKO, PhD

The maiden proposed research project should demonstrate that the present study will add a significant knowledge on the subject. The main objective of the literature research is to allow that the statement of the research need will clearly establish the objective of the new study.
