A Study On Parallel Computation Tools On Networked Pcs, Heru Suhartanto

Makara Journal of Technology

A Study on Parallel Computation Tools on Networked PCs. Many models for natural phenomena, engineering applications and industries need powerfull computing resources to solve their problems. High Performance Computing resources were introduced by many researchers. This comes in the form of Supercomputers and with operating systems and tools for development such as parallel compiler and its library. However, these resources are expensive for the investation and maintenance, hence people need some alternatives. Many people then introduced parallel distributed computing by using available computing resource such as PCs. Each of these PCs is treated as a processors, hence the cluster of …

Averaged Inertia Principle For Non-Newtonian Squeeze Films In Wide Parallel Plates: Couple Stress Fluid, Jaw-Ren Lin, Chi-Ren Hung, Rong-Fang Lu

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

On the basis of the Stokes micro-continuum theory, the combined effects of non-Newtonian couple stresses and convective fluid inertia forces upon the squeeze film characteristics of two wide parallel plates are investigated by using the averaged inertia principle. A numerical solution of the film height versus response time is calculated by using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. Compared to the Newtonian-lubricant non-inertia case of Hamrock [4], the qualitative effects of couple stresses and convective inertia forces provide an increase in the film pressure, the load capacity and the response time. Moreover, the quantitative effects are more pronounced for wide parallel plates …

Reinforcing Effects And Mechanical Properties Of Rc Beam With Cfs Under Static And Running Loads, Ming-Chien Hsu, Tadashi Abe, Tetsukazu Kida, Toshiaki Sawano, Kazuhiko Minakuchi

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

Through a series of experiments on RC beams reinforced with the carbon fiber sheet (CFS) under the static and running loads, the authors verified the effects of the aspect ratio (ratio of beam width to depth) and CFS reinforcement on the failure mechanism. The experiments revealed that: (1) CFS can effectively reinforce beams subjected to static loads in the flexural region, and increase the strength of beams subjected to running loads but such beams failed in shear, and (2) the tensile strength of CFS is greatly influenced by the aspect ratio. The authors evaluated how the aspect ratio influences the …

Dynamic Characteristics Of Wide Exponential Film-Shape Slider Bearings Lubricated With A Nonnewtonian Couple Stress Fluid, Jaw-Ren Lin, Rong-Fang Lu, Chi-Ren Hung

Journal of Marine Science and Technology

On the basis of the Stokes micro-continuum theory, the nonNewtonian effects of couple stress fluids upon the dynamic characteristics of wide exponential-shaped slider bearings are presented in this paper. To take into account the couple stress effects arising from a Newtonian lubricant blended with various additives, the nonNewtonian couple-stress dynamic Reynolds-type equation is applied to calculate the bearing dynamics. According to the results obtained, the effects of couple stresses signify a decrease in the friction parameter and the volume flow rate, as well as an increase in the loadcarrying capacity, the dynamic stiffness coefficient and the dynamic damping coefficient for …

Makara Journal of Technology

Design of Induction Motor Drive Without Velocity Sensor Using Current Vector Controller with Full and Reduced Observer Moving to DQ Axis. The observer is used in estimation velocity sensor usually in α-β axis, therefore this situation will need an extra transformation when we want to add compensator because the flux model is in direct and quadrature-axis dq. Every used the transformation to make possible emerge an error. So in this simulation is used a method to estimate the velocity of induction motor drive with observer that is moved to dq-axis. The model of actual motor used is in alfa-beta axis, …

In this paper, the channel propagation characteristic of such a system is firstly investigated by means of ray tracing algorithm. We emphasize our investigation in a typical urban environment, in which the mobile users mostly exist. We developed building block model for …

Modification Of Bonding Strength Test Of Wc Hvof Thermal Spray Coating On Rocket Nozzle, Bondan T. Sofyan, Haposan J. Pardede, Marizki Stefano, Edi Sofyan

Makara Journal of Technology

Modification of Bonding Strength Test of WC HVOF Thermal Spray Coating on Rocket Nozzle. One way to reduce structural weight of RX-100 rocket is by modifying the nozzle material and processing. Nozzle is the main target in weight reduction due to the fact that it contributes 30 % to the total weight of the structur. An alternative for this is by substitution of massive graphite, which is currently used as thermal protector in the nozzle, with thin layer of HVOF (High Velocity Oxy-Fuel) thermal spray layer. This paper presents the characterization of nozzle base material as well as the modification …

Dynamical Multi-Body Gyroscopic Motion Simulation, Andy Ries, Johnathan Deppe Jan 2006

Dynamical Multi-Body Gyroscopic Motion Simulation, Andy Ries, Johnathan Deppe

The Journal of Undergraduate Research

In this paper, the motion of a three-degree-of-freedom gyro scope is analyzed in three different force scenarios. The equations of motion for the gyroscope are derived by hand as well as derived by the dynamical analysis software, Autolev These equations are compared with each other to show the consistency between the two methods and the time savings of using software applications for analyzing complex multi-body dynamical systems. The Autolev™ program drastically reduced the workload for determining the motion equations and the program even compiled Matlab code that was used to produce numerical values to show the respective motion of each …

Virtual Prototype Of Shuttle Bay Door, Nick Harrington, Raphael Schulz, Pierre Chapron Jan 2006

Virtual Prototype Of Shuttle Bay Door, Nick Harrington, Raphael Schulz, Pierre Chapron

The Journal of Undergraduate Research

This study analyzed the motion of the Space Shuttle free floating in space after one of its bay doors is opened and closed. Kane's method and Autolev motion simulation software were used to carry out simulation and analysis. The Space Shuttle has two large bay doors that open simultaneously, but for our study we analyzed a hypothetical situation, in which only one door functioned properly, in order to achieve amplified results. To model this system we used a rigid body to resemble the Shuttle and an attached rotating flap to resemble the door. Since the Shuttle is free floating in …

Economic Evaluation Of Integrating Biodiesel Production With A Dry Mill Ethanol Plant, Steven Bly Jan 2006

Economic Evaluation Of Integrating Biodiesel Production With A Dry Mill Ethanol Plant, Steven Bly

The Journal of Undergraduate Research

Biodiesei is produced by adding methyl ester products to diesel fuel. Base catalyzed transesterification of oil with methanol is the primary process used today. Current dry mill ethanol production facilities allow the com oil to pass through the process where it becomes part of the dried distiller's grain with solubles (DDGS), a lower valued feed co-product. This study evaluated the economic feasibility of integrating a biodiesel production facility with existing and/or new dry mill ethanol plants. The following methods for com oil separation were considered; hexane extraction of com oil from the dried distiller's grain stream, initial germ separation and …
