Using Machine Learning To Interpret Dice Rolls, Hunter Wimsatt, Aarohi Panzade, Kaaustaaub Shankar, Warren Campbell
SEAS Faculty Publications
Gamers use polyhedral dice that come with 4 sides (D4), 6 sides (D6), 8 sides (D8), 10 sides (D10), 12 sides (D12) and 20 sides (D20). All dice are unfair, some more than others. The goal of this project was to develop a machine learning and computer vision solution for the interpretation of dice rolls. When combined with an automated dice roller it would facilitate the study of dice unfairness. In the machine learning literature, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are the preferred method of computer classification of images. The CNN convolves images with different weights and biases through multiple layers …
Morphology And Structure Of Pb Thin Films Grown On Si (111) By Pulsed Laser Deposition, Bektur Abdisatarov
Morphology And Structure Of Pb Thin Films Grown On Si (111) By Pulsed Laser Deposition, Bektur Abdisatarov
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is a versatile thin film deposition technique in which high powered laser beam interacts with a target material inside an ultrahigh vacuum chamber. Highly energetic particles such as electrons, atoms, protons, and ions generate a plasma plume that directed towards a substrate material where recondenses form a thin film. PLD is an effective and reliable method to create varieties of thin films such as metal, polymer, and ceramic for many technologically essential applications.
In this study, thin Pb films were grown by pulsed laser deposition on Si (111) at various laser fluences, pulse wavelengths, deposition times, …
An Evaluation Of Induction Heating In Healthcare Food Industry, Barrett Alexander Hampton
An Evaluation Of Induction Heating In Healthcare Food Industry, Barrett Alexander Hampton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This thesis addresses the problem healthcare facilities are having in maintaining proper food temperatures while transporting meals to patients after food has left the kitchen area. Induction heat has been a known method for generating heat for many years. The commercial food industry currently uses this technology, which is beginning to appear in the residential sector as well because of developments made by manufacturers. This study focuses on the top commercial brand models of induction heaters and the supporting materials currently used to create heat sources to maintain food temperatures in hospitals and long term care facilities.
The research in …
Innovative Non-Thermal Food Processing Technologies Used By The Food Industry In The United States, Harlin Kaur Saroya
Innovative Non-Thermal Food Processing Technologies Used By The Food Industry In The United States, Harlin Kaur Saroya
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This thesis discussed the non-thermal food processing technologies being used within the United States of America. The technologies discussed in this thesis are High- Pressure Processing (HHP), Pulsed Electric Field, Pulsed Light, Irradiation, Ultra Sound, Oscillating Magnetic Fields, and Cold Atmospheric Plasma. A survey was designed and conducted to study the major reasons behind a preference for a particular technology by the organization, and the limitations for not implementing specific technologies. The survey participants were management level, food scientists and, food technologists employed by food processing companies. The questionnaire consisted of ten questions related to demographics, current technology, barriers from …
A Study On The Sustainable Machining Of Titanium Alloy, Abdulhameed Alaa Dawood
A Study On The Sustainable Machining Of Titanium Alloy, Abdulhameed Alaa Dawood
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Titanium and its alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) are widely used in aerospace industries because of their light weight, high specific strength, and corrosion resistance. This study conducted a comparative experimental analysis of the machinability of Ti-6Al-4V for conventional flood coolant machining and sustainable dry machining. The effect of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on machining performance has been evaluated for both conditions. The machining time and surface roughness were found to be lower in dry machining compared to flood coolant machining. The tool wear was found to be unpredictable, and no significant difference was observed for dry and coolant …
Characterizing Water As Gap Fill For Double Glazing Units, Bright Adu
Characterizing Water As Gap Fill For Double Glazing Units, Bright Adu
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The use of sunlight has always been a major goal in the design and operation of commercial buildings to minimize electrical consumption of artificial lighting systems. Glazing systems designed to allow optimal visible light transmission also allow significant unwanted direct solar heat gain caused by infrared light. Conversely, glazing systems that are designed to reflect unwanted direct solar heat gain significantly reduce the transmittance of visible light through windows. The goal of this research was to characterize the performance of water as gap-fill for double-glazing units in eliminating the compromises that exist in current glazing systems with respect to light …

Noise In Cadmium Sulfide & Cadmium Selenide Photoconductive Cells, Edward Foster
Noise In Cadmium Sulfide & Cadmium Selenide Photoconductive Cells, Edward Foster
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The primary object of this investigation is to design a system, including equipment and procedures, that can be used to evaluate the noise characteristics of photoconductive cells. The data once collected must be in a comprehensive and useful form. The secondary object is to use this system to evaluate a large number of cells of various types and to compare their noise profiles in a manner such that definite conclusions can be drawn concerning the absolute noise levels and profiles generated by the various cell types and the relations that may exist between the cells' noise output and the way …
