Practical Design Considerations For Signal Conditioning Unit Interfaced With Multi-Point Snow Temperature Recording System, Raman K. Attri, B. K. Sharma, M. A. Shamshi
Raman K. Attri
Multi-point Temperature Measurement has always been very important aspect of physical instrumentation mainly in environmental and Industrial application. A multi-point temperature measurement system has been developed to measure temperature at different points simultaneously. This multi-channel system is designed specifically for measuring snow temperature at 28 different points in snow layers and this multi-point data is used in modeling of snow cover. The interfacing of such multi-channel system to Data acquisition system is one of the most critical design aspects, which affect the overall performance of the system. The temperature sensor system and Data Acquisition System may be working satisfactorily when …
Effects Of Jamming On Radars, Ahmet Okuyucu
Effects Of Jamming On Radars, Ahmet Okuyucu
Theses and Dissertations
Although jamming of radars has been in vogue for nearly 50 years there appears to be no comprehensive report on the subject matter. The purpose of this research is to fill this gap. The methodology consisted of analysis, simulation, and where feasible experimental demonstrations. Experimental equipment consisted of a digital noise generator whose output was used to modulate a high frequency carrier in various fashions. The modulated output was fed into a very sensitive super-heterodyne receiver whose Intermediate frequency (IF) bandwidth could be varied from tens of Hz to mega Hz range. The detected output was displayed on a sampling …
Post-Processing Resolution Enhancement Of Open Skies Photographic Imagery, Daniel E. Sperl
Post-Processing Resolution Enhancement Of Open Skies Photographic Imagery, Daniel E. Sperl
Theses and Dissertations
The Treaty on Opens Skies allows any signatory nation to fly a specifically equipped reconnaissance aircraft anywhere over the territory of any other signatory nation. For photographic images, this treaty allows for a maximum ground resolution of 30 cm. The National Air Intelligence Center (NAIC), which manages implementation of the Open Skies Treaty for the US Air Force, wants to determine if post-processing of the photographic images can improve spatial resolution beyond 30 cm, and if so, determine the improvement achievable. Results presented in this thesis show that standard linear filters (edge and sharpening) do not improve resolution significantly and …
Estimating Evoked Dipole Responses In Unknown Spatially Correlated Noise With Eeg/Meg Arrays, Aleksandar Dogandžić, Arye Nehorai
Estimating Evoked Dipole Responses In Unknown Spatially Correlated Noise With Eeg/Meg Arrays, Aleksandar Dogandžić, Arye Nehorai
Aleksandar Dogandžić
We present maximum likelihood (ML) methods for estimating evoked dipole responses using electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) arrays, which allow for spatially correlated noise between sensors with unknown covariance. The electric source is modeled as a collection of current dipoles at fixed locations and the head as a spherical conductor. We permit the dipoles' moments to vary with time by modeling them as linear combinations of parametric or nonparametric basis functions. We estimate the dipoles' locations and moments and derive the Cramer-Rao bound for the unknown parameters. We also propose an ML based method for scanning the brain response data, …
Vhdl Design And Simulation For Embedded Zerotree Wavelet Quantisation, Hung Huynh
Vhdl Design And Simulation For Embedded Zerotree Wavelet Quantisation, Hung Huynh
Theses : Honours
This thesis discusses a highly effective still image compression algorithm – The Embedded Zerotree Wavelets coding technique, as it is called. This technique is simple but achieves a remarkable result. The image is wavelet-transformed, symbolically coded and successive quantised, therefore the compression and transmission/storage saving can be achieved by utilising the structure of zerotree. The algorithm was first proposed by Jerome M. Shapiro in 1993, however to minimise the memory usage and speeding up the EZW processor, a Depth First Search method is used to transverse across the image rather than Breadth First Search method as initially discussed in Shapiro's …

We discuss the utility of wavelet transform methods in signal processing in general, and in particular, demonstrate the technique in optoacoustic applications. In several optoacoustic experiments with different samples, we have successfully enhanced the signal to noise ratios. Wavelet transforms optimize resolution by utilizing a tailored, variable time-window in different frequency regions. The technique's great advantage lies in the fact that the wavelet transform adds some redundancy to the original signal, and some desired features can be enhanced in the transformed space. In addition, proper choice of the basis set allows a sparse representation of the signal. Therefore, even when …

Voice Command Controller, Hoang Nghia Nguyen
Theses : Honours
Signal processing technology has been strongly developed and it has attracted interest from scientists and engineers around the world from the last decade. Speech synthesis and speech recognition are particular topic in the field that have been widely used and developed in many different area such as business, controlling, education and entertainment. The project's main objective is to study and develop an application program with the Speech SDK through design and implementation of Tele-Control system based on the commercial product of National Semiconductor: Carrier-Current Transceiver (LM 1893) and Speech development kit (Speech SDK4.0) from Microsoft Corporation. The project is suitable …
