Detection And Control Of Small Civilian Uavs, Matthew Peacock Jan 2014

Detection And Control Of Small Civilian Uavs, Matthew Peacock

Theses : Honours

With the increasing proliferation of small civilian Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the threat to critical infrastructure (CI) security and privacy is now widely recognised and must be addressed. These devices are easily available at a low cost, with their usage largely unrestricted allowing users to have no accountability. Further, current implementations of UAVs have little to no security measures applied to their control interfaces. To combat the threat raised by small UAVs, being aware of their presence is required, a task that can be challenging and often requires customised hardware.

This thesis aimed to address the threats posed by the …

Predictive And Adaptive Game Development A Practical Application Of Development Models To The Independent Video Game Industry, Liam A. Hunt Jan 2011

Predictive And Adaptive Game Development A Practical Application Of Development Models To The Independent Video Game Industry, Liam A. Hunt

Theses : Honours

Through the process of researching a number of game and system development models, this study defines two archetypical development models - the predictive and the adaptive. Using each of these models, two video games have been developed in order to measure the practical effect that they can have on the design, development process and player experience of a game. Using the knowledge gained through playtesting and an analysis of the relationship between each game and its development methodology, a number of development guidelines and recommendations have been specifically constructed for use by independent games developers. The practical development and written …

The individuals involved in this project were teachers from the High Valley Language School (HVLS) -a specialised primary school. The study used a social action research methodology, which allowed the researcher to build theories from emergent data. The data collection process consisted …

Wireless Local Area Network Security : An Investigation Into Security Tool Usage In Wireless Networks, Susan Webb Jan 2003

Wireless Local Area Network Security : An Investigation Into Security Tool Usage In Wireless Networks, Susan Webb

Theses : Honours

Many organisations and individuals installing wireless local area networks (WLANs), which are based on the IEEE 802.11 b standard, have little understanding of the security issues that surround this technology.

This study was initiated to determine how WLAN security issues affect organisations in Perth, Western Australia. The scope of the study was restricted to 802.llb WLANs operating in infrastructure mode, where all traffic is transmitted by wireless access points (APs). This study was conducted in two phases. The general aims of the first phase were to determine the number of detectable WLANs in the Perth Central Business District (CBD) and …

A University Wide Smart Card System, Philip Cummins Jan 2003

A University Wide Smart Card System, Philip Cummins

Theses : Honours

Presently, many tertiary educational institutions utilise card technologies for staff and student identification and the support of other related services within the institution. A new type of card technology has been developed known as a Smart Card, where an existing plastic card has an embedded integrated circuit and is capable of expanding the range of applications and services capable within an institution. This thesis will detail the advantages that these new Smart Cards have over existing institution cards, detail other institution's attempts to use Smart Cards and finally, this thesis proposes a suitable system for integrating Smart Cards into an …

Bluetooth Software On Linux, Wireless Hand-Held Devices, Teck Khoon Low Jan 2001

Bluetooth Software On Linux, Wireless Hand-Held Devices, Teck Khoon Low

Theses : Honours

In order to enable existing computers (non-Bluetooth ready) to connect to a Bluetooth piconet, a Bluetooth hardware device comprising of the Radio antenna, the baseband and control circuit is used. The digital portion of this device is also known as a Host Controller, HC. In the traditional communication lingo, the Bluetooth Hardware functions, as the Data Communication Equipment (DCE) while the Host is the Data terminal Equipment (DTE). This report discusses the theory and implementation of the communication protocol between the Host and the Host Controller, enabling communication between the computer and the Bluetooth hardware

Design And Implementation Of High-Radix Arithmetic Systems Based On The Sdnr/Rns Data Representation, Paul Whyte Jan 1997

Design And Implementation Of High-Radix Arithmetic Systems Based On The Sdnr/Rns Data Representation, Paul Whyte

Theses : Honours

This project involved the design and implementation of high-radix arithmetic systems based on the hybrid SDNRIRNS data representation. Some real-time applications require a real-time arithmetic system. An SDNR/RNS arithmetic system provides parallel, real-time processing. The advantages and disadvantages of high-radix SDNR/RNS arithmetic, and the feasibility of implementing SDNR/RNS arithmetic systems in CMOS VLSI technology, were investigated in this project. A common methodological model, which included the stages of analysis, design, implementation, testing, and simulation, was followed. The combination of the SDNR and RNS transforms potential complex logic networks into simpler logic blocks. It was found that when constructing a SDNRIRNS …

A Design In Interfacing The Mc68hc11 To The Amd Am29f010 Flash Memory Chips, David H. Hands Jan 1997

A Design In Interfacing The Mc68hc11 To The Amd Am29f010 Flash Memory Chips, David H. Hands

Theses : Honours

In many environments, motion, vibration and contamination to the Secondary Storage Devices such as hard drives can cause data to become unreadable or even lost. Elimination of these types of magnetic drives, incorporating its replacement with a Solid State Memory Storage Device would provide an invaluable solution for these type of environments. If a secondary storage system could replace these electro-mechanical disk drive systems incorporating a Solid State Secondary Storage Device such as the Flash Memory Integrated Chips, an increase in the speed of reading from milli-seconds to nano-seconds would transpire as well as providing a robust Secondary Storage Device. …

Analysis Of Background Noise For Wireless Microwave Lan Channels, Jason C. Hislop Jan 1996

Analysis Of Background Noise For Wireless Microwave Lan Channels, Jason C. Hislop

Theses : Honours

Perusal of the details within, should provide the reader with an insight into general wireless indoor communications within the microwave spectrum, with respect to the problems laced, specific to noise corruption of the transmitted signal. Indoor communication systems are difficult to model, due to the largely random nature of the relevant environment, and the compounding factors that degrade system performance. These factors are many and varied, in accordance with the operational topologies of possible application area. However, there exists a common and increasing need to effectively model the communication links in question. Part of this strategy involves having an understanding …

Simulator For The Performance Analysis Of Cpm Schemes In An Indoor Wireless Environment, Ronald Chua Jan 1996

Simulator For The Performance Analysis Of Cpm Schemes In An Indoor Wireless Environment, Ronald Chua

Theses : Honours

A software simulator for characterising Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) schemes in an indoor multipath environment has been developed using SIMULINK and MATLAB. The simulator is capable of simulating a wide range of CPM schemes to determine bandwidth efficiency and robustness to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and Rician fading. Initial trials of the simulator indicate that the simulator is functioning correctly. Eventually, the simulator will be used to determine the most suitable modulation scheme for the development of an actual indoor wireless system.

Robust Decentralised Variable Structure Control For Rigid Robotic Manipulators, Thasapalan Kuhan Jan 1995

Robust Decentralised Variable Structure Control For Rigid Robotic Manipulators, Thasapalan Kuhan

Theses : Honours

In this thesis, the problem of robust variable structure control for non-linear rigid robotic manipulators is investigated. Robustness and convergence results are presented for variable structure control systems of robotic manipulators with bounded unknown disturbances, nonlinearities, dynamical couplings and parameter uncertainties. The major outcomes of the work described in this thesis are summarised as given below. The basic variable structure theory is surveyed, and some basic ideas such as sliding mode designs, robustness analysis and control1er design methods for linear or non-linear systems are reviewed. Three recent variable structure control schemes for robotic manipulators are discussed and compared to highlight …
