The Analysis And Optimization Of Cnn Hyperparameters With Fuzzy Tree Modelfor Image Classification, Kübra Uyar, Şaki̇r Taşdemi̇r, İlker Ali̇ Özkan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The meaningful performance of convolutional neural network (CNN) has enabled the solution of various state-of-the-art problems. Although CNNs achieve satisfactory results in computer-vision problems, they still have some difficulties. As the designed CNN models are deepened to achieve much better accuracy, computational cost and complexity increase. It is significant to train CNNs with suitable topology and training hyperparameters that include initial learning rate, minibatch size, epoch number, filter size, number of filters, etc. because the initialization of hyperparameters affects classification results. On the other hand, it is not possible to make a definite inference for the hyperparameter initialization and there …

Performance Analysis Of A Fuzzy Disparity Selector For Stereo Matching Of Imagesegments Under Radiometric Variations, Akhil Appu Shetty, Vadakekara Itty George, Chempi Gurudas Nayak, Raviraj Shetty

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Stereo matching algorithms generate disparity maps, which contain the depth information of the environment, from two or more images of a scene taken from different viewpoints. The process of obtaining dense disparity maps is a problem which is still being actively researched. The presence of radiometric differences in the images only further complicates the stereo matching problem. In the present research work, the images are initially split into small patches of pixels, such that pixels in each patch have similar intensities. The authors attempt to study the effect of the parameters, namely, tuning parameter `?? and the number of segments, …

Fuzzy Genetic Based Dynamic Spectrum Allocation (Fgdsa) Approach For Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks, Ganesan Rajesh, Xavier Mercilin Raajini, Kulandairaj Martin Sagayam, Bharat Bhushan, Utku Kose

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Cognitive Radio Sensor Network (CRSN) is known as a distributed network of wireless cognitive radio sensor nodes. Such system senses an event signal and ensures collaborative dynamic communication processes over the spectrum bands. Here, the concept of Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) denes the method of reaching progressively to the unused range of spectrum band. As among the essential CRSN user types, the Primary User (PU) has the license to access the spectrum band. On the other hand, the Secondary User (SU) tries to access the unused spectrum eciently, by not disturbing the PU. Considering that issue, this study introduces a …

Fuzzy Logic-Based Disparity Selection Using Multiple Data Costs For Stereo Correspondence, Akhil Appu Shetty, V.I George, C Gurudas Nayak, Raviraj Shetty

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Stereo matching algorithms are capable of generating depth maps from two images of the same scene taken simultaneously from two different viewpoints. Traditionally, a single cost function is used to calculate the disparity between corresponding pixels in the left and right images. In the present research, we have considered a combination of simple data costs. A new method to combine multiple data costs is presented and a fuzzy-based disparity selection method is proposed. Experiments with different combinations of parameters are conducted and compared through the Middlebury and Kitti Stereo Vision Benchmark.

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Randomness and uncertainty are two major problems one faces while modeling nonlinear dynamics of molecular systems. Stochastic and fuzzy methods are used to cope with these problems, but there is no consensus among researchers regarding which method should be used when. This is because the areas of applications of these methods are overlapping with differences in opinions. In the present work, we demonstrate how to use stochastic Petri nets with fuzzy parameters to manage random timing of biomolecular events and deal with the uncertainty of reaction rates in biological networks. The approach is demonstrated through a case study of simulation-based …

Application Of Fuzzy Logic On Astronomical Images' Focus Measures, Alaa Hamdy, Farag Elnagahy, Islam Helmy

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Focus accuracy is an essential factor that affects the quality of astronomical observations. The accurate measurement of celestial objects' properties depends on focus. Automatic focusing is necessary for celestial imaging systems. This paper presents a modified focus measure operator. It also proposes the use of fuzzy logic to transform images because of its tolerance of imprecise and incomplete data. The focus operators are applied to two sequences of star clusters' observations. The experimental results show that the suggested measure's overall score exceeds those of previous operators.

However, given the complicated structure of these systems, the methods used to validate the efficiency of databases, all towards ensuring quality and security, have become diversified. In response, this paper demonstrates a system for performing automated testing with DDBSs, given that testing is significant in software verification and that accredited systems are more productive in business environments. The proposed system applies several tests …

Design And Implementation Of A New Speed Planner For Semiautonomous Systems, Mustafa Demi̇r, Volkan Sezer Jan 2018

Design And Implementation Of A New Speed Planner For Semiautonomous Systems, Mustafa Demi̇r, Volkan Sezer

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, a new speed planning method is developed for semiautonomous systems by improving our previous fuzzy logic-based approach. In this proposed method, an extended risk factor is calculated on top of the classical risk factor, using environmental factors and the user's speed reference. We obtain safer speed values in critical scenarios with this new extended risk factor definition. Another improvement comes from the design of the semiautonomous architecture. Instead of the fully autonomous solution of the previous work, we calculate the final speed reference by combining the risk factor-based speed value and user's speed reference, which provides a …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper deals with the problem of sensorless indirect field oriented control of an induction machine. Based on the fourth-order nonlinear model, we propose a novel structure of a full-order Takagi-Sugeno (TS) adaptive observer, through which we ensure the estimation of IM states and the rotor speed, which is considered as an immeasurable premise variable. This approach satisfies global stability for all operating conditions and operates under unknown applied load torque. In this work, a TS fuzzy model is presented to approximate a nonlinear IM model in the stationary rotating reference frame. A TS adaptive observer is then described. We …

The development of electrical railway systems leads to critical power quality problems in the power grid. This paper discusses a kind of half-bridge-based railway power quality compensator system (HBRPQC) that can compensate negative sequence currents, harmonics, and reactive power simultaneously. In order to keep the HBRPQC performance efficient for the different kinds of transformers used in traction power supply substations, a new multifunctional control strategy that performs better than previous methods is proposed. Due to the fast dynamicity of traction loads, a recessive self-tuning PI controller based on fuzzy logic is adopted in the current control system. The output control …

A New High-Performance Current-Mode Fuzzy Membership Function Circuit And Its Application, Turgay Temel

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A new current-mode fuzzy-membership function circuit is proposed. The circuit has a very compact and simple architecture based on the simultaneous use of winner- and loser-take-all topologies. The circuit has also the advantage of easily adjusting generated membership function characteristics such as center or mean and width with a straightforward application of respective input currents. It is shown that the new circuit outperforms previous counterparts in terms of speed, power consumption, layout area, and robustness to variations in design parameters and errors. As an application, a fuzzy-classifier is designed with a new membership circuit as a seven fuzzy level controller.

A Control Scheme Employing An Adaptive Hysteresis Current Controller And An Uncomplicated Reference Current Generator For A Single-Phase Shunt Active Power Filter, Hüseyi̇n Doğan, Ramazan Akkaya

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In recent years, active power filters (APFs) have become popular because of their excellent current harmonics and reactive power mitigation ability. The performance of the APF is directly related to the selected control strategy, which is mainly divided into 2, the reference current generation and current control. Most of the reference current generation methods are very complicated and require precise mathematical expressions. Moreover, being the most preferred current control method, conventional hysteresis controllers have a fixed bandwidth, which causes different total demand distortion values under different load conditions. In this study, a novel control scheme for a single-phase shunt APF …

A New Approach In The Evaluation Of Hospital Information Systems, Güney Gürsel, Neşe Zayi̇m, Kemal Hakan Gülkesen, Ali̇ Ari̇foğlu, Osman Saka

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Hospital information system (HIS) evaluation frameworks have largely been discussed in the literature. However, existing frameworks lack one important aspect: to what extent user expectations of HISs are met. In this study, user expectation data are collected by means of the 'expectation questionnaire'. The internal consistencies of the answers to the questionnaire are measured by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Fuzzy logic methodologies are used to evaluate the expectation variables in the proposed evaluation framework. The evaluation variables are not represented in the results equally; they are reflected by the weights assigned by the users. Our proposed framework provides the overall degree …

Fuzzy Logic Approach To Henry Factor For Distributed Feedback Laser Case, Abdullah Çavuşoğlu Jan 2014

Fuzzy Logic Approach To Henry Factor For Distributed Feedback Laser Case, Abdullah Çavuşoğlu

In this study, a simple approach for intelligent modeling of the Henry factor (\alpha-alpha parameter, antiguiding factor, phase-amplitude coupling factor) or the so-called linewidth enhancement factor, which is an actual analysis and design parameter for semiconductor laser diodes and optical communication systems, is proposed based on the fuzzy logic (FL) phenomenon. The proposed FL-based model easily computes the Henry factor in terms of different wavelengths and injection current levels (i.e. the inputs of the model). The experimental data belong to a distributed feedback laser, obtained from amplified spontaneous emission spectra, which is among the techniques required for the characterization of …

Fuzzy Modeling Approach For Integrated Assessments Using Cultural Theory, Adnan Yazici, Fred E. Petry, Curt Pendergraft Jan 2001

Fuzzy Modeling Approach For Integrated Assessments Using Cultural Theory, Adnan Yazici, Fred E. Petry, Curt Pendergraft

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

It has already been noted that the accurate prediction of societal responses requires the use of a formal model based on some social or cultural taxonomy. One such taxonomic candidate is Cultural Theory (CT). CT argues that all societies, irrespective of time or place, are informed by their underlying worldviews, which must be more or less Hierarchic, more or less Individualistic, more or less Egalitarian, and more or less Fatalistic. This approach appears to have a potential for cross-temporal and spatial comparisons that makes it a particularly attractive instrument for a study of the human dimensions of global climate change. …
