More than 300,000 total hip replacement surgeries are performed in the US each year. Minimally invasive total hip replacement surgery requires modified tools to access the smaller incision. An offset hip impactor was redesigned to improve tool lifetime, ease of use, and manufacturing cost. The redesigned tool had an increased lifetime and a significant reduction in the number of parts. The report contains detail drawings, a manufacturing plan, and physical testing results.
