Current development and use of short-term bioassays to evaluate potential human health hazards of environmental chemical exposure has been the focus of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Second and Third Symposia on the Ap plication of Short-Term Bioassays in the Analysis of Complex Environmental Mixtures.1'2 Topics addressed included development and applications of bioassays, collection and preparation of environmental samples, characterization of hazardous components using bioassays, and environmental assessment.
