Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu Jan 2019

Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu

All Undergraduate Projects

A primary problem for mechanics and automotive enthusiasts is the risk associated with lifting and securing a vehicle with conventional jack stands. Often times, improper jack-stand installation results in the vehicle collapsing unexpectedly, causing injury and/or death. This problem can be minimized through the application of a newly re-designed vehicle lifting system. The conventional method for lifting cars is time consuming and can be unsafe in many circumstances. A better, safer, and more efficient lift design was needed; the AutoJack. The approach of the AutoJack design was entirely focused on the safety of lifting a vehicle. Safety was improved ...

Manufacturing A Composite Wheel Prototype Using 3d Printed Molds, Steven Thuening Jan 2018

Manufacturing A Composite Wheel Prototype Using 3d Printed Molds, Steven Thuening

All Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

Throughout the evolution of high performance racing, a large emphasis has been on reducing the weight of the vehicle in order to improve its performance. Over the years, new designs and materials have been introduced reducing weight in a variety of different locations. Comparing weight reduced in different areas has shown that some areas are more valuable to reduce than others are. Perhaps one of the most beneficial locations are the wheels. This is because the mass of the wheel is considered unsprung and rotational. Because of this, large improvements towards the reduction of wheel mass have been developed in ...

Sae Baja Data Acquisition System, Ryan Carl, Ryan Rose, Gabe Sevigny, Nathanael Smith Apr 2017

Sae Baja Data Acquisition System, Ryan Carl, Ryan Rose, Gabe Sevigny, Nathanael Smith

Scholar Week 2016 - present

The Olivet Nazarene University SAE Baja team designs a custom off-road vehicle every year to compete against teams from other schools at competitions throughout the year. The current car that the Baja team is working on needs some improvements, but they need some help gathering data to see where to make these improvements. In previous years, the Baja team would not have any feedback besides what they observed while driving, so this year they have tasked the SAE Baja Data Acquisition design group with the project of creating a sensor system and a data logging program to gather information that ...

Automotive Hub Stand Design, Peter Noh Jan 2016

Automotive Hub Stand Design, Peter Noh

All Undergraduate Projects

Most modern vehicles have protective covers such as skid plates and belly pans that cover the majority of the undercarriage. Therefore, specific jack points exist on each corner of these vehicles. A jack can be placed on these points to safely lift the vehicle up without damaging any plastic covers. However, this poses a problem for the DIY mechanic. The jack point usually does not leave enough room for a jack and a jack stand. The objective of the Automotive Hub Stand Design project was to design an affordable alternative to the traditional jack stand that can be mounted directly ...

Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing Of Stainless Steel-Hydroxyapatite Bio-Composite, Don Suranga Dhanushka Uduwage Jan 2015

Binder Jet Additive Manufacturing Of Stainless Steel-Hydroxyapatite Bio-Composite, Don Suranga Dhanushka Uduwage

All Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

This study was conducted to create a bio-composite with a porous structure using the binder-jet printing additive manufacturing process. The samples were printed by changing the parameters such as layer thickness, roller speed, sintering time and sintering temperature of the X1-Lab binder jet additive manufacturing printer. The samples were printed 80% stainless steel 316 mixed with 20% Calcium Phosphate Tribasic by volume. Eight experiments were attempted to print according to the fractional factorial design of experiment. The effects of changing parameters on the mechanical properties of the new bio-composite was tested using ASTM E-09 compressive strength standards. The compression testing ...
