Electrathon Vehicle: Front Suspension, Christopher Clark Jan 2020

Electrathon Vehicle: Front Suspension, Christopher Clark

All Undergraduate Projects

Central Washington University does not currently have a competition field-able Electrathon America electric vehicle with adequate front suspension. The aim of this project was to provide the vehicle with handling that supports sound ground contact throughout the competition environment. Handling that supports sound ground contact is important for vehicles so they can go around corners without a loss of traction or flipping over. The solution to this engineering problem was designed and tested through various requirements. The requirements at hand were that the suspension components weigh less than 50 pounds, that there be no more than 3 inches of suspension ...

Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu Jan 2019

Autojack - Hydraulic Powertrain System, Tyce Vu

All Undergraduate Projects

A primary problem for mechanics and automotive enthusiasts is the risk associated with lifting and securing a vehicle with conventional jack stands. Often times, improper jack-stand installation results in the vehicle collapsing unexpectedly, causing injury and/or death. This problem can be minimized through the application of a newly re-designed vehicle lifting system. The conventional method for lifting cars is time consuming and can be unsafe in many circumstances. A better, safer, and more efficient lift design was needed; the AutoJack. The approach of the AutoJack design was entirely focused on the safety of lifting a vehicle. Safety was improved ...

YZ250 LHRB

A Left Hand Rear Brake (LHRB) means that a motorcycle can not only have the rear brake operated by the foot pedal that comes standard on all bikes, but it can be actuated by a lever located on the handlebar as well. The purpose of this engineering project is to design a bracket that can hold two brake calipers while not hindering stock handling. It should also add braking usability and power.

The device is to be made of mild steel for the first models, this will allow for ease of prototyping, fitment testing, and finalized design testing ...

Asme Rc Baja Challenge: Suspension And Steering, Hunter W. Jacobson Jan 2018

Asme Rc Baja Challenge: Suspension And Steering, Hunter W. Jacobson

All Undergraduate Projects

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) usually hosts an RC Baja challenge each year, testing a RC car in three events: slalom, acceleration and Baja. Although ASME will not be holding an event this year, CWU will be holding a similar event with three RC Baja car teams from CWU. The RC car that is tested in these events is designed and manufactured typically in teams of two. The RC car that each team submits must be able to complete these events while also remaining competitive. One part of great importance for the RC car is the suspension and ...

Built-In Bicycle Rack For Cars, Scott A. Hansberry Jan 2017

Built-In Bicycle Rack For Cars, Scott A. Hansberry

All Undergraduate Projects

Transporting a bicycle after riding somewhere and then needing to be pickup can be problematic. Bicycles will not fit in most vehicles without removing components. There is also the risk of damaging the inside of the vehicle. Expecting everyone to have a bike rack for their vehicle is unrealistic because the bike rack could be considered unappealing visually, take up to much space in the trunk, or limit the vehicle owner’s access to the trunk. The solution to this problem is a bike rack that mounts onto your car and then mounts your bike onto the rack. Most people ...

Hydraulic Sprayer Boom Upgrade, Chad R. Omlin Jan 2016

Hydraulic Sprayer Boom Upgrade, Chad R. Omlin

All Undergraduate Projects

Title and Author: Agriculture sprayer hydraulic boom upgrade by Chad Omlin (engineering Technologies, Safety, and Construction)

Abstract: Today’s agriculture industry is all about being the most efficient with your time, land, employees, and machinery. One thing that has made farming more efficient has been the use of hydraulics. Having a sprayer unit with manual booms is not being efficient with your time and/or employees. To make the sprayer unit more efficient, hydraulic cylinders were added. Sketched solutions were analyzed using statics and mechanics of materials principles. Drawings were completed for the successful analysis solutions. Solid works software was ...

Automotive Hub Stand Design, Peter Noh Jan 2016

Automotive Hub Stand Design, Peter Noh

Most modern vehicles have protective covers such as skid plates and belly pans that cover the majority of the undercarriage. Therefore, specific jack points exist on each corner of these vehicles. A jack can be placed on these points to safely lift the vehicle up without damaging any plastic covers. However, this poses a problem for the DIY mechanic. The jack point usually does not leave enough room for a jack and a jack stand. The objective of the Automotive Hub Stand Design project was to design an affordable alternative to the traditional jack stand that can be mounted directly ...
