Modeling Overdraft-Driven Nitrate Transport In Shallow Wells For Mitigation And Scenario Planning, Jonathan Cronk
Modeling Overdraft-Driven Nitrate Transport In Shallow Wells For Mitigation And Scenario Planning, Jonathan Cronk
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
In Nebraska, average nitrate concentrations in groundwater have doubled since 1974, making water quality management more important than ever. As droughts, heat waves, and floods become more common climate events, understanding their impacts will be necessary to make informed management decisions. Emerging literature describes that drought correlates to an increase in the concentration of nitrate-N at domestic and irrigation wells, however the relative contributions of the mechanisms thought to be responsible is currently unknown.
This research assessed the impact of recharge and pumping rate changes as two mechanisms affecting nitrate-N concentration during drought, assessed the relationship between well depth and …
A Novel Path Loss Forecast Model To Support Digital Twins For High Frequency Communications Networks, James Marvin Taylor Jr
A Novel Path Loss Forecast Model To Support Digital Twins For High Frequency Communications Networks, James Marvin Taylor Jr
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The need for long-distance High Frequency (HF) communications in the 3-30 MHz frequency range seemed to diminish at the end of the 20th century with the advent of space-based communications and the spread of fiber optic-connected digital networks. Renewed interest in HF has emerged as an enabler for operations in austere locations and for its ability to serve as a redundant link when space-based and terrestrial communication channels fail. Communications system designers can create a “digital twin” system to explore the operational advantages and constraints of the new capability. Existing wireless channel models can adequately simulate communication channel conditions with …
Fuel Consumption Models For Tractor Test Reports, Michael F. Kocher, Bryan J. Smith, Roger M. Hoy, Jeffrey C. Woldstad, Santosh Pitla
Fuel Consumption Models For Tractor Test Reports, Michael F. Kocher, Bryan J. Smith, Roger M. Hoy, Jeffrey C. Woldstad, Santosh Pitla
Biological Systems Engineering: Papers and Publications
Five models for estimating fuel consumption for agricultural tractors with partial drawbar loads were compared. Data were collected from eight John Deere tractors, JD 7230R (e23), 7250R (e23), 7270R (e23), 7290R (e23), 8320R (16 speed), 7290R (IVT), 8345RT (IVT), 8370R (IVT), on the drawbar test track at the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab. The tractors were tested with seven load levels per speed at three different travel speeds as close as possible to 7.5, 10, and 13 km h-1. The IVT tractors were operated in auto mode, and the geared tractors were shifted up three gears and throttled back to the …
Simulation And Validation Of Radio Frequency Heating Of Shell Eggs, Soon Kiat Lau
Simulation And Validation Of Radio Frequency Heating Of Shell Eggs, Soon Kiat Lau
Department of Food Science and Technology: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Finite element models were developed with the purpose of finding an optimal radio frequency (RF) heating setup for pasteurizing shell eggs. Material properties of the yolk, albumen, and shell were measured and fitted into equations that were used as inputs for the model. When the egg was heated by itself, heating tend to be focused at the air cell to result in a “coagulation ring.” The focused heating near the air cell of the egg prevented satisfactory pasteurization of the egg, but deeper analysis of the simulation results offered a new perspective on how non-uniform RF heating could occur in …
The Economics And Logistics Of The Dual Harvest Of Grain And Biomass In A Single-Pass, Matthew T. Wold
The Economics And Logistics Of The Dual Harvest Of Grain And Biomass In A Single-Pass, Matthew T. Wold
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Significant interest has developed in using cellulosic resources, especially crop residues, to create biofuels. Collecting these residues in a single-pass of the harvester across the field has the potential to be a low cost option. Two models have been developed; the first characterizes the in-field logistics of single-pass crop residue collection, the second the economics. These models allow the user to easily examine a wide variety of both grain-only and single-pass residue collection harvest cases. A variety of possible residue collection cases have been examined, and their effects both on harvester field capacity and harvest cost compared to grain-only harvest …
Numerical And Analytical Verification Of A Multiscale Computational Model For Impact Problems In Heterogeneous Viscoelastic Materials With Evolving Damage, Bruno Bachiega Araujo
Numerical And Analytical Verification Of A Multiscale Computational Model For Impact Problems In Heterogeneous Viscoelastic Materials With Evolving Damage, Bruno Bachiega Araujo
Department of Engineering Mechanics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Composites are engineered materials that take advantage of the particular properties of each of its two or more constituents. They are designed to be stronger, lighter and to last longer which can lead to the creation of safer protection gear, more fuel efficient transportation methods and more affordable materials, among other examples.
This thesis proposes a numerical and analytical verification of an in-house developed multiscale model for predicting the mechanical behavior of composite materials with various configurations subjected to impact loading. This verification is done by comparing the results obtained with analytical and numerical solutions with the results found when …

Optimization Of Cell Density And Dilution Rate In Pichia Pastoris Continuous Fermentations For Production Of Recombinant Proteins, Mehmet Inan, Michael M. Meagher, Wenhui Zhang, Chih Ping Liu
Papers in Biomolecular Engineering
This paper provides an approach for optimizing the cell density (Xc) and dilution rate (D) in a chemostat for a Pichia pastoris continuous fermentation for the extracellular production of a recombinant protein, interferon τ (INF-τ). The objective was to maximize the volumetric productivity (Q, mg INF-τ I-1 h-1), which was accomplished using response surface methodology (RSM) to model the response of Q as a function of Xc and D within the ranges 150 ≤ Xc ≤ 450 g cells (wet weight) l-1 and 0.1 μm ≤D ≤ 0.9 μm (μm =0.0678 h-1, the maximum specific growth rate obtained from a …
