Research outputs 2022 to 2026

It is well known that the mechanical properties of Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si are closely related to its microstructure and texture. In this work, a novel treatment of electroshocking treatment (EST) was adopted to optimize the microstructure and improve the mechanical properties of this titanium alloy. The grain orientation, texture, and mechanical properties of Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si alloy under EST were characterized and analyzed. With the increase of EST time to 0.04 s, the resultant acicular secondary αs shows a tendency of spheroidization and the increase in grain diameter, which leads to a little decrease in hardness and yield strength. The increase in EST time …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The geological conditions of shale reservoir present several unique challenges. These include the extensive development of multi-scale fractures, frequent losses during horizontal drilling, low success rates in plugging, and a tendency for the fracture plugging zone to experience repeated failures. Extensive analysis suggests that the weakening of the mechanical properties of shale fracture surfaces is the primary factor responsible for reducing the bearing capacity of the fracture plugging zone. To assess the influence of oil-based environments on the degradation of mechanical properties in shale fracture surfaces, rigorous mechanical property tests were conducted on shale samples subsequent to their exposure to …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The relationship between processing parameters, microstructure, and mechanical properties of Al-8.3Fe-1.3V-1.8Si alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion is seldom studied. Therefore, fully dense alloys with two parameters were selected to investigate this key issue. The results show that the alloy with low power and scanning speed (S200) shows fan-shell-shaped melt pools and laser tracks while another (S350) shows a deeper and wider melt pool. Both alloys obtain a heterogeneous microstructure without a secondary phase in melt pool (MP) and a nano-sized phase in melt pool boundary (MPB). The difference between solid-solution strengthening and Orowan strengthening in MP and MPB …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Impurity elements always play a major role in hindering mechanical property improvement in Ti6Al4V, and specifically most of them e.g. O, P, Cl, and S dissolved in the matrix deteriorate the mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V. This work presents a strategy of enhancing the mechanical performance of as-cast Ti6Al4V alloy by adding a small amount of rare earth (i.e. 0.1 wt% Ce), where deleterious elements could be absorbed from the crystalline lattice during solidification process, forming uniformly distributed Ce-rich oxides or precipitates with ∼200 nm in size. The Ce-rich precipitates in turn refine the beta phase lamellae by introducing more nucleation …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Effects of electroshock treatment (EST) on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of near-β titanium alloy (Ti-55531) formed by directed energy deposition (DED) was studied in this work. With the increase in EST time, the average hardness of specimen decreased from 426 HV to 316 HV, and the fracture strain increased significantly, which was attributed to the uniform dispersion of α phase along grain boundaries and inside the β grains. After EST, the texture intensity decreased in terms of the orientation distribution function (ODF), which was ascribed to the redistribution of α phase. Moreover, more atomic vacancies and lattice distortion …
