Trajectory Optimization And Design For A Large Number Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Jenna Elisabeth Newcomb Dec 2019

Trajectory Optimization And Design For A Large Number Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Jenna Elisabeth Newcomb

Theses and Dissertations

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm allows for a more time-efficient method of searching a specified area than a single UAV or piloted plane. There are a variety of factors that affect how well an area is surveyed. We specifically analyzed the effect both vehicle properties and communication had on the swarm search performance. We used non-dimensionalization so the results can be applied to any domain size with any type of vehicle. We found that endurance was the most important factor. Vehicles with good endurance sensed approximately 90% to 100% of the grid, even when other properties were lacking. If …

Resource Allocation And Task Scheduling Optimization In Cloud-Based Content Delivery Networks With Edge Computing, Yang Peng Dec 2019

Resource Allocation And Task Scheduling Optimization In Cloud-Based Content Delivery Networks With Edge Computing, Yang Peng

Operations Research and Engineering Management Theses and Dissertations

The extensive growth in adoption of mobile devices pushes global Internet protocol (IP) traffic to grow and content delivery network (CDN) will carry 72 percent of total Internet traffic by 2022, up from 56 percent in 2017. In this praxis, Interconnected Cache Edge (ICE) based on different public cloud infrastructures with multiple edge computing sites is considered to help CDN service providers (SPs) to maximize their operational profit. The problem of resource allocation and performance optimization is studied in order to maximize the cache hit ratio with available CDN capacity.

The considered problem is formulated as a multi-stage stochastic linear …

Involuntary Signal-Based Grounding Of Civilian Unmanned Aerial Systems (Uas) In Civilian Airspace, Keith Conley Dec 2019

Involuntary Signal-Based Grounding Of Civilian Unmanned Aerial Systems (Uas) In Civilian Airspace, Keith Conley

Master's Theses

This thesis investigates the involuntary signal-based grounding of civilian unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in unauthorized air spaces. The technique proposed here will forcibly land unauthorized UAS in a given area in such a way that the UAS will not be harmed, and the pilot cannot stop the landing. The technique will not involuntarily ground authorized drones which will be determined prior to the landing. Unauthorized airspaces include military bases, university campuses, areas affected by a natural disaster, and stadiums for public events. This thesis proposes an early prototype of a hardware-based signal based involuntary grounding technique to handle the problem …

Communication Capability For A Simulation-Based Test And Evaluation Framework For Autonomous Systems, Ntiana Sakioti Oct 2019

Communication Capability For A Simulation-Based Test And Evaluation Framework For Autonomous Systems, Ntiana Sakioti

Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations

The design and testing process for collaborative autonomous systems can be extremely complex and time-consuming, so it is advantageous to begin testing early in the design. A Test & Evaluation (T&E) Framework was previously developed to enable the testing of autonomous software at various levels of mixed reality. The Framework assumes a modular approach to autonomous software development, which introduces the possibility that components are not in the same stage of development. The T&E Framework allows testing to begin early in a simulated environment, with the autonomous software methodically migrating from virtual to augmented to physical environments as component development …

Reducing Construction Costs Through Effective Field Communication And Administration, Gabriel B. Dadi, Roy E. Sturgill Jr., Steven Waddle, Steven Douglas Kreis Jun 2019

Reducing Construction Costs Through Effective Field Communication And Administration, Gabriel B. Dadi, Roy E. Sturgill Jr., Steven Waddle, Steven Douglas Kreis

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Falling Road Fund receipts have placed added strain on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) already-underfunded highway program. Revenue declines have increased the urgency of improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the Cabinet’s operations. One method KYTC can use to realize greater cost savings is improving the administration of construction projects. Effective field communication and administration helps control construction costs, enhances quality, and minimizes delays and claims. One challenge the Cabinet will need to confront to more effectively administer projects, however, is the loss of institutional knowledge associated with staff attrition. The report documents KYTC current methods for project staffing, communication, …

Research On Network Public Opinion Simulation From Interdisciplinary Perspective, Lingnan He, Kaisheng Lai, Zhongxuan Lin, Xiling Xiong Jan 2019

Research On Network Public Opinion Simulation From Interdisciplinary Perspective, Lingnan He, Kaisheng Lai, Zhongxuan Lin, Xiling Xiong

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: The simulation of network public opinion shows a trend of interdisciplinary development. On the one hand, the method of data analysis in network public opinion belongs to natural science; on the other hand, participants are social people and have strong social scientific attributes. However, at present, most of the simulation models come from the natural science fields such as system dynamics, Markov model, small-world theory and SIS model, etc. This paper introduces the big five personality of psychology, media literacy of communication, opinion leaders and diffusion of innovation theory, taking the psychological modeling in the dissemination of the main …

High Security Cognitive Radio Network Via Instantaneous Channel Information, Kaiyu Huang Jan 2019

High Security Cognitive Radio Network Via Instantaneous Channel Information, Kaiyu Huang

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

The cognitive radio network has been considered one of the most promising communication technologies for next generation wireless communication. One important aspect of cognitive radio network research is the so-called Primary User Authentication. Naturally, the primary user authentication in the cognitive radio network requires strong encryption. For the primary user identification, this dissertation provides a method which hides the user information in the header of the data frames with an underlay waveform. It is important to note that the underlay waveform will not bring redundancy data to the communication system. Using the synchronizing frequency as the underlay waveform carrier also …

Investigation On Communication Aspects Of Multiple Swarm Networked Robotics, Shahzad Ali, Zenib Khan, Ahmad Din, Mahmood Ul Hassan Jan 2019

Investigation On Communication Aspects Of Multiple Swarm Networked Robotics, Shahzad Ali, Zenib Khan, Ahmad Din, Mahmood Ul Hassan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Swarm robotics is an emerging field of robotics and is envisioned to play a vital role in surveillance and search/rescue operations. Most of the existing works on swarm networked robotics address the problem of formation movement or the communication aspects within a swarm. However, none of the existing works consider multiple swarms. Even for the case of single swarms, researchers use unrealistic assumptions with respect to communication, leading to unrealistic results. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of multiple swarms considering realistic assumptions with respect to communication. To the best of our knowledge, it will be the first time …
