Construction Management Computer Lab Redesign, Matt Williamson Jun 2019

Construction Management Computer Lab Redesign, Matt Williamson

Construction Management

This project looked to take an inventory of the current Construction Management computer lab, communicate with students and other stakeholders about how the computer lab is used, look ahead to how the lab will be used in the future, and create a new design that best suits the Construction Management department.

Journeyman International: Peace Academy Of The Sciences And The Arts, Alyssa L. Mathias Jun 2019

Journeyman International: Peace Academy Of The Sciences And The Arts, Alyssa L. Mathias

Construction Management

For years, K-12 education has been taught through separate, individual subjects such as Math, English, Art, and Science. Primary education has remained stagnant while our society is constantly evolving with technological advances and innovation. The Peace Academy of the Sciences and Arts in San Luis Obispo, California are a group of visionaries and educators challenging traditional learning styles. They are striving to offer an education that focuses on holistic learning and integrating all subjects into big ideas to create competent, compassionate leaders for the future. My senior project is a collaboration between Journeyman International, the Peace Academy, a student in ...

Advanced Concrete Course For Cal Poly Construction Management Department, Dante N. Feliciano Jun 2019

Advanced Concrete Course For Cal Poly Construction Management Department, Dante N. Feliciano

Construction Management

This senior project provides a solution to the Construction Management Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo whose curriculum lacks an individual Concrete course. With Concrete being one of the most used building material worldwide, this course will help immensely. The goal of this project is to fill the gap with an Advanced Concrete Course that is prepared and ready to be introduced to future students. The course has an emphasis on outside research learning – where the student gets to become the instructor. Carefully thought out and executed lecture materials are included in the course. Lecture slides give background information ...

Ada Code Education In The Construction Management (Cm) Curriculum, William Joseph Cefali Jun 2019

Ada Code Education In The Construction Management (Cm) Curriculum, William Joseph Cefali

Construction Management

The Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design is becoming an integral part of construction. On many jobsites, recent graduates may not have enough knowledge to adequately catch and fix ADA compliance problems before they become a critical issue. With nearly all students and graduates going to work on projects governed by this code, knowledge of these codes, where to find them, and how to apply them is essential for graduates. Construction Management students believe this information would be very valuable to learn in school, and critical information to help them with their careers when they enter the industry ...

Investigation And Development Of Multiphysics Modeling Software Applications For Building Noise Control, Jennifer Solheim May 2019

Investigation And Development Of Multiphysics Modeling Software Applications For Building Noise Control, Jennifer Solheim

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

COMSOL Multiphysics is a simulation software for modeling engineering processes and designs. The software can be used to create applications that allow users to change variables in a model and see the effect on the physics phenomenon under investigation. COMSOL applications can provide an interactive learning experience and help students visualize engineering concepts. This project examines the use of COMSOL to develop applications related to noise control in buildings, focusing on making them useful for education. Two applications were developed based on existing COMSOL models. One simulates sound absorption by a porous foam, and the other simulates sound propagation through ...

Geo-Spatial Mapping As A Catalyst For Creative And Engaged Design In Engineering Education, Jessie Zarazaga Apr 2019

Geo-Spatial Mapping As A Catalyst For Creative And Engaged Design In Engineering Education, Jessie Zarazaga

Multidisciplinary Studies Theses and Dissertations

Exploiting the technology of geo-spatial mapping student designers can develop deep understandings of the rich and layered data of a spatial context, a situational understanding essential to responsible civic design. However the actions inherent in the construction of spatial data armatures can simultaneously be harnessed as creative strategies, in which mapping processes become the context for generative spatial play. The ambition of this study is to propose efficient pedagogic structures to help prepare civil and environmental student engineers to be not only strong participants, but leaders, in the design of the built environment. The interpretation of site data, mapped as ...

Understanding Effects Of Engineering Outreach On Elementary Students, Thomas Cobb Jan 2019

Understanding Effects Of Engineering Outreach On Elementary Students, Thomas Cobb

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

Currently, there is a desire to increase engineering understanding held by elementary students. As such, there needs to be a way to stimulate not only engineering, but other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics in a young student’s lifestyle. One way to emphasize the importance of STEM while also showing how fun it can be is through different hands on activities led by individuals partaking in undergraduate studies or the industry. While having the students participate in the activities, it is important to understand what the students are learning and how the activity overall is viewed. With the ...
