This project-based senior project is the design and preconstruction work needed to complete the build-out of the interior of a van in order to become a livable space. This project includes a 3D model of the vans designed interior, a developed estimate approximating the project cost, and a tentative schedule for the construction. This project was created to provide others with the information needed to identify how it is possible to live off the grid and what the initial upfront costs may be. This project based senior project is an interdisciplinary partnership with a non-profit called Journeyman International (JI) and students from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly). Journeyman International worked Empowering Villages and our design team to design a community center, eco-lodge, and guest houses to enable the local population to take advantage of a tourism heavy area creating jobs and income. In the recent years, there has been interests regarding an overhead crane to be erected inside of Cal Poly Simpson Strong Tie Lab (Building 187). This under running single girder crane system will be used for construction classes, and to lift heavy equipment. The erection of this 2 Ton indoor crane will be crucial to provide modular pieces, for whom that lost their homes due to the California fires.
