Distributed, physically based watershed and irrigation advance models require robust infiltration estimation capabilities. The empirical Green and Ampt (GA) equation of infiltration is a popular method for estimating infiltration. The GA parameters have physical basis and considerable prior research has focused on relating these parameters to soil textural classification. However, the original GA method is limited in that it is applicable only for a single ponding period. Force curves obtained from an elastic contact theory are shown and compared with experimental results. In the elastic contact theory, a pin-on-disk contact is assumed and the following interaction are taken into consideration; (i) elastic deformation, (ii) the specific energy of adhesion in the area of the contact, which is expressed as the difference between the surface energies and the interface energy, (iii) the long-range interaction outside the area of contact, assuming the additivity of the Lennard-Jones type potential, and (iv) another elastic term for the measurement system such as the cantilever stiffness of an atomic force microscope (AFM). The goals of the Roundtable was to assemble key champions and stakeholders of various approaches towards process representation in order to discuss the relative merits to reach consensus on a language architecture and to establish a technical approach for proceeding. The forces between a silica probe and an n-type TiO2 single-crystal electrode were measured using an atomic force microscope in an aqueous electrolyte solution. These interactions were a strong function of the solution pH, the presence of specifically adsorbed anions, and the TiO2 electrode potential. For a series of pH values, a strong electrostatic repulsion was seen at high pH and decreased as the pH was reduced. At pH values below 5.5, the interaction became attractive. Combination of the first and second law of thermodynamics has been utilized in analysing the convective heat transfer in a rectangular packed duct. Raschig ring type of packing in the air flow passage is used to enhance the heat transfer from uniformly heated front wall to air when the other walls are adiabatic. The packing increases wall to fluid heat transfer considerably, hence reduce the entropy generation due to the heat transfer across a finite temperature difference. An expression for the volumetric rate of entropy generation has been derived and displayed graphically to analyze the convection heat transfer for a fully established flow in a rectangular packed duct with LAt=I6 and H/W=0.125. The top and bottom walls of the duct are heated by constant, asymmetric heat fluxes, while the other walls are insulated that is the L2 thermal boundary conditions. Entropy generation maps reveal the regions where excessive entropy generation occurs due to physical and geometric parameters for a specified task within the system.
