The 1966 Eruption Of Izalco Volcano, El Salvador, William I. Rose, Richard E. Stoiber Jun 1969

The 1966 Eruption Of Izalco Volcano, El Salvador, William I. Rose, Richard E. Stoiber

Department of Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences Publications

During October–November 1966 900,000 m3 of olivine basalt flowed from the flank of Izalco volcano, El Salvador. The total heat energy was approximately 1015 calories. No measurable changes in gravity occurred at stations on the active cone between August 1964 and August 1967. In the summit crater fumaroles have surface temperatures as high as 540°C. The cooling rate of these fumaroles was 18°C/yr before the eruption and 45°C/yr after. Yearly temperature cycles due to wet and dry seasons are superimposed on the general cooling trend. The rate of gas emission at four fumaroles in November 1967 was 86 …

FORWARD: Environmental problems in our complex industrial society have, in the past decade, assumed immense proportions. A population growth which will double the number of persons in the United States and in the total world in the next thirty years makes it imperative that greater care and consideration be given to the effects of industrialization on all our lives.

All industry is fair game for the advocate that suggest that there should be no change in what nature has given us. If these persons were to be followed, there would be no industrialization, no improvement in living conditions, working hours, …

Numerical Inversion Of The Laplace Transformation And The Solution Of The Viscoelastic Wave Equations, Abbas Ali Daneshy Jan 1969

Numerical Inversion Of The Laplace Transformation And The Solution Of The Viscoelastic Wave Equations, Abbas Ali Daneshy

Doctoral Dissertations

"In the numerical inversion of Laplace transform two general techniques of inversion are analyzed; a study of the procedures based on an expansion of f̄(s) by a polynomial in 1/s (Salzer's method) provides accurate results for certain ranges of t. A curvature criterion for the selection of the range of points for polynomial interpolation, and a geometric distribution in this interval markedly improves the range and the degree of accuracy of inversion. The results may be further improved by multiplying f̄(s) by 1/s of 1/s². Other procedures are based on approximation of f̄(t). This investigation includes a general review of …
