Advance Metallic Reinforcement Of Vat Photo Polymerized Parts, Scott Zinn Jan 2021

Advance Metallic Reinforcement Of Vat Photo Polymerized Parts, Scott Zinn

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The metallization or metallic reinforcement of polymer parts has been widely used in industry for several decades. Polymer parts are classically metalized for aesthetics, chemical and thermal resistance, electrical conductivity, and mechanical strength. Metallization has been shown to increase strength of polymer parts when compared to the strength of the bulk material without metallization. Additive manufacturing (AM) techniques that have emerged in the last few decades produce parts with different surface features and chemistry than the typical polymer part produced through injection molding. AM parts are typically weaker than traditionally manufactured parts from the same material due to intrinsic details …

Reduction Of Nox Emissions In A Single Cylinder Diesel Engine Using Sncr With In-Cylinder Injection Of Aqueous Urea, Anthony Timpanaro Jan 2019

Reduction Of Nox Emissions In A Single Cylinder Diesel Engine Using Sncr With In-Cylinder Injection Of Aqueous Urea, Anthony Timpanaro

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The subject of this study is the effect of in-cylinder selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) of NOx emissions in diesel exhaust gas by means of direct injection of aqueous urea ((NH2)2CO) into the combustion chamber. A single cylinder diesel test engine was modified to accept an electronically controlled secondary common rail injection system to deliver the aqueous urea directly into the cylinder during engine operation.

Direct in-cylinder injection was chosen in order to ensure precise delivery of the reducing agent without the risk of any premature reactions taking place. Unlike direct in-cylinder injection of neat water, …

The Relationship Between High-Cycle Fatigue And Tensile Properties In Cast Aluminum Alloys, Huseyin Ozdes Jan 2016

The Relationship Between High-Cycle Fatigue And Tensile Properties In Cast Aluminum Alloys, Huseyin Ozdes

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Cast aluminum alloys are common in automotive and aerospace applications due to their high strength-to-density ratio. Fracture data for cast aluminum alloys, such as fatigue life, tensile strength and elongation, are heavily affected by the structural defects, such as pores and bifilms. There have been numerous studies in which either fatigue performance or tensile deformation were characterized and linked to casting defects. However, a comprehensive study that correlates tensile and fatigue properties has not been reported. The present study is motivated to fill this gap. The main objective of the investigation is to analyze the link between tensile and fatigue …

The Effect Of Surface Corrosion Damage On The Fatigue Life Of Extruded Aluminum Alloy 6061-T6, Matthew Weber Jan 2014

The Effect Of Surface Corrosion Damage On The Fatigue Life Of Extruded Aluminum Alloy 6061-T6, Matthew Weber

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Aluminum alloy 6061-T6 is a common engineering material used in aerospace, automotive, structural applications. Despite its wide use, little has been published about the effects of damage from surface corrosion on its fatigue life. An investigation was performed where 6061-T6 extrusions were exposed to a 3.5% NaCl solution at pH 2 for 2 days and 24 days. The length of time and pH were chosen in order to create distinct surface flaws. The effect of these flaws on the fatigue life was then investigated and analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Weibull statistics. It was determined that samples corroded …

A Study Of Walkway Safety And Evaluation Of Tribological Test Equipment, Henry Thomas Baker Jan 2014

A Study Of Walkway Safety And Evaluation Of Tribological Test Equipment, Henry Thomas Baker

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A walkway tribometer measures the coefficient of friction between flooring material and a test foot. The value of the coefficient of friction is an indicator as to whether the flooring surface is slippery and has a propensity to cause slip and falls. This study determined that one style of tribometer, an XL Tribometer, mimics the heel-to-floor interaction of the human heel strike. High speed video footage revealed that the test foot strikes the surface and rotates so that full engagement occurs before sliding thus mimicking the affect of a human ankle. The test foot accelerates forward as would be expected …

Passive Gas-Liquid Separation Using Hydrophobic Porous Polymer Membranes: A Study On The Effect Of Operating Pressure On Membrane Area Requirement, Taylor Patrick Maxwell Jan 2012

Passive Gas-Liquid Separation Using Hydrophobic Porous Polymer Membranes: A Study On The Effect Of Operating Pressure On Membrane Area Requirement, Taylor Patrick Maxwell

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The use of hydrophobic porous polymer membranes to vent unwanted gas bubbles from liquid streams is becoming increasingly more common in portable applications such as direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) and micro-fluidic cooling of electronic circuits. In order for these portable systems to keep up with the ever increasing demand of the mobile user, it is essential that auxiliary components, like gas-liquid separators (GLS), continue to decrease in weight and size. While there has been significant progress made in the field of membrane-based gas-liquid separation, the ability to miniaturize such devices has not been thoroughly addressed in the available literature. …
