Mechanical Engineering

A lectern is an essential piece of equipment for almost all speeches and presentations. They come in many forms and range in degree of professionalism depending on the occasion. Lecterns not only hold a presenter’s notes, a microphone, or other presentation aids, they provide a structure for a presenter that can bolster their confidence during a presentation. School Van Access In Nepal, Edgar Corona, Humberto Maldonado, Josh Schiesl

Mechanical Engineering

A need has been identified by a school in Nepal intended for children with Cerebral Palsy, called Sathi Sansar, to develop a more effective solution to loading and unloading students onto the school’s Toyota HiAce van. Currently, a combination of the driver, parents and teachers manually help the students on and off the van. However, this task has proven to be both laborious and time consuming for all parties involved. A solution to this problem needs to be designed and one is currently being developed by a team of engineering students from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo and Katmandu …

Mechanical Engineering

The team producing Foam Wars II consists of three Mechanical Engineering students and five Kinesiology students (three the first two quarters and two the last quarter) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. The project is the second iteration of Foam Wars as a senior project at Cal Poly, sponsored by Dr. Kevin Taylor under the National Science Foundation grant. Persons with disabilities often feel limited when it comes to recreational activities and Foam Wars would provide them with an outlet to interact and engage themselves in a group setting. The game consists of various wheelchair attachments that would …
