The Hydrology And Solids Removal Efficiency Of A Detention Pond With Groundwater Inflow, Cameron A. Boss Jan 1986

The Hydrology And Solids Removal Efficiency Of A Detention Pond With Groundwater Inflow, Cameron A. Boss

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Most recently, research on stormwater detention ponds has focused on designs and operations that will improve the water quality of the discharge. Historically stormwater detention ponds were used to reduce the rate of runoff from the watershed area of using temporary storage to attenuate flow rates.

The study site was located near Orlando, Florida, and consisted of a detention pond, namely Lake Angel, which received stormwater runoff from a 131-acre area. Hydrologic data such as precipitation, runoff, and pond outflow were measured at the site. Total and suspended solids data for the pond outflow and stormwater runoff also were collected …

Experimental Software Package For Linear Programming, Deborah S. Fogal Jan 1985

Experimental Software Package For Linear Programming, Deborah S. Fogal

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A software package for linear programming has been developed using the revised simplex and dual simplex algorithms. The design of the program incorporates an experimental change in the dual simplex algorithm. If the entered problem is not primal feasible, a modified dual simplex algorithm is used. The traditional dual simplex method requires an initial dual feasible basis and maintains feasibility throughout its application. The experimental change is to ignore this criteria of dual feasibility. The objective then becomes to obtain primal feasibility. Once this is attained, the revised simplex algorithm is applied to obtain optimality, if this has not been …

Adaption And Optimization Of The Ibrahim Time Domain (Itd) Modal Parameter Identification Algorithm For Mini-Computer Use, Mary T. Cogeos Jan 1984

Adaption And Optimization Of The Ibrahim Time Domain (Itd) Modal Parameter Identification Algorithm For Mini-Computer Use, Mary T. Cogeos

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Conventional modal analysis is performed using FFT Analyzers with modal analysis software developed by one of many test/analysis software vendors. The analysis is performed in the frequency domain using frequency response functions. A recent advancement in modal analysis involves analyzing the measured free response of a structure in the time domain. The Ibrahim Time Domain (ITD) Algorithm is such a method which has been used and verified at government environmental test facilities. The ITD is an accurate numeric solution. Minimal operator interaction is required for proper performance of the algorithm. The results of the ITD Algorithm are far superior to …

Microsoftware For Facility Layout, James D. Anderson Jul 1982

Microsoftware For Facility Layout, James D. Anderson

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study presents five supporting programs in the area of facility layout design. Programs are "stand alone" adapted type which cover data analysis and analytical techniques. Programs are From/To (From/To Chart generator), CRAFT* (Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique), RELVAL (Relationship Chart generator), CORELAP* (Computerized Relationship Layout Planning), and EVAL (Layout Evaluation program). Theory, complete program documentation, and case example for each program are presented. Programs are written in an interactive basic mode and have been tested on the Apple II Plus system.

Smada: Stormwater Management And Design Aid, Timothy M. Curran Oct 1980

Smada: Stormwater Management And Design Aid, Timothy M. Curran

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The Stormwater Management and Design Aid (SMADA) is a computer model formulated to assess stormwater runoff quantity and quality. Applicable theory is reviewed to introduce a discussion of the modeling methodology. A pre- vs. post-development design objective can be incorporated to evaluate runoff quantity and quality for single or multiple land use watershed. Detention and retention facilities are considered and conveyance systems for runoff transmission can be sized. Initial design assessments and consistent design review and evaluation are possible. SMADA is written in the BASIC language and is executed in the interactive mode. No computer cards are required and data …

Software Quality Assurance, Edward C. Soistman Jul 1979

Software Quality Assurance, Edward C. Soistman

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The problems associated with software development and use are investigated from a management point of view. Having identified the critical aspects of effective software management, an approach is suggested for the creation and implementation of a software quality assurance program, Particular attention is focused on the concept of Life Cycle Procurement as currently utilized by the Department of Defense. The research was accomplished in two phases. The first consisted of an extensive literature search, seminar attendance and participation in several working groups assigned the responsibility for establishing software quality assurance guidelines. The second phase involved direct participation in the development …

Hardware And Software Considerations For Improving The Throughput Of Scientific Computation Computers, Glenn Allen Sullivan Jan 1977

Hardware And Software Considerations For Improving The Throughput Of Scientific Computation Computers, Glenn Allen Sullivan

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

In this paper, hardware and software techniques are presented for improving the Throughput (defined as computations per dollar) of computing systems which are oriented towards high-precision floating point computations. The various improvements are referenced to a baseline of the PDP 11/20, the NOVA 1200, and the TI 960A, all 16 bit minicomputers. The most beneficial hardware improvement is the inclusion of a Floating Point Processor, which yields up to 200X Throughput increase over a software floating point package. The inclusion of a cache high speed local memory and the availability of Polish Notation format instructions are shown to provide less …

Energy Resource Allocation Optimization: A Mixed Integer Programming Fixed Charge Model, Mashaallah Khorsandi Jan 1976

Energy Resource Allocation Optimization: A Mixed Integer Programming Fixed Charge Model, Mashaallah Khorsandi

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A fixed charge model has been developed for a case study of a total energy power plant involving energy demands for chilled water, high temperature hot water, and electrical power. Using a FORTRAN computer program, which employs the Land and Doig branch and bound algorithm, the system model is solved for different sets of system demands for multiple energy users, and the following set of information is obtained to guide the decisions of operations personnel: 1. Recommend on/off status for each piece of equipment in the system. 2. Recommended rate of operation for each piece of machinery. 3. Required amounts …

An Interactive Income Tax Preparation System, Karen W. Ehlert Jan 1976

An Interactive Income Tax Preparation System, Karen W. Ehlert

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The system described in this research report computes 1975 Federal income tax for those who itemize deductions. The system user calls the program, written in FORTRAN IV, from a computer terminal, and then types answers to questions asked by the program. The user is given the opportunity to make corrections in the answers, and then the system calculates and prints out information necessary the complete IRS Form 1040 and Schedule A. The paper contains a description of the system, and explanation of the program, recommendations for future revision, and suggestions for expansion of the system. Four appendices contain IRS Form …

Energy Resource Allocation Optimization--A Linear Programming Model, Paul F. Hutchins Jan 1976

Energy Resource Allocation Optimization--A Linear Programming Model, Paul F. Hutchins

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A linear programming model has been developed for a Central Energy Plant which minimizes operational costs for a system involving the generation of chilled water and high temperature hot water plus the generation and/or purchase of electric power with equipment using natural gas or fuel oil energy. The fundamental concepts developed herein are sufficient for the analysis of any combination of energy supplies, demands, and energy conversion equipment. Utilization of this model is demonstrated with a case study and computer program results for high and low temperature environments. The linear programming model approach establishes a well-defined framework for the analysis …
