Fabrication Of Micro-Meltblown Filtration Media Using Parallel Plate Die Design, Mohammad A. Hassan Jan 2016

Fabrication Of Micro-Meltblown Filtration Media Using Parallel Plate Die Design, Mohammad A. Hassan

Mohammad Abouelreesh Hassan

Meltblown fibers are typically produced using a die technology based on the slot concept, an extension of the sheet die technology with a series of holes substituting the center rectangular slot of the sheet die. While this prevalent technology has met with considerable success, an economical, facile design would be desirable. In this study a new parallel plate die concept to fabricate micro-meltblown fibers that offers simplicity, ease of use, and low cost was examined. The new die concept had parallel plates forming channels for polymer melt to flow through with a set of air holes surrounding them. This die …

A Study Of Electrochemical Interactions Between Gold And Its Associated Oxide Minerals, Ahmet Deniz Bas, Edward Ghali, Yeonuk Choi

Ahmet Deniz Bas

There is a lack of electrochemical studies of oxidized gold ores since the majority of previous studies were conducted with sulphidic gold ores. In this study, the influence of agitation and iron oxide minerals, i.e. magnetite, hematite, and maghemite on gold leaching was investigated by means of galvanic and passivation phenomena. Cyclic voltammetry studies of Roasted Gold Ore (RGO) in de-aerated electrolyte have shown one oxidation and one reduction reaction while three oxidation and one reduction peaks were observed with gold electrode. Galvanic coupling results by Zero Resistance Ammeter (ZRA) mode indicated that magnetite showed a negative effect on gold …

Experimental Evaluation Of Tensile Strength And Young’S Modulus Of Woven Jute Fiber And Polyurethane Composite, Shrikant Shinde, A. V. Salve

Innovative Research Publications IRP India

Natural fiber reinforced composites (NFRCs) are increasingly used in a variety of commercial applications, but there has been little theoretical, micromechanical modeling of structure/property relationships in these materials. These can’t be met by conventional metal alloys. The scope of possible uses of natural fibers is enormous.Plenty of research work is done on natural fiber composites. But, woven jute fiber and bio based polyurethane resin matrix is not used extensively for research studies. Mostly mathematical model is used to investigate and predict the properties and fiber loads effect on mechanical properties. The combination of jute fiber with PU produced the material …

Hydrometallurgy Of Phosphate Rock And The Recovery Of Uranium, Fathi Habashi Aug 2015

Hydrometallurgy Of Phosphate Rock And The Recovery Of Uranium, Fathi Habashi

Fathi Habashi

Phosphate rock of sedimentary origin contains on the average 0.01 % uranium. Since large tonnage of this rock is used annually to produce fertilizers, this represented an important potential source of uranium. Before the discovery of rich uranium deposits this source was developed on industrial scale. The production of phosphoric acid by sulfuric acid process is at present facing the problem of disposal of gypsum; about 1.5 tons of gypsum is produced per ton of rock processed. This material contains all the radium originally present in the rock which results from the radioactive decay of uranium. As a result, phospho-gypsum …

Under Sleeper Pads: Field Investigation Of Their Role In Detrimental Impact Mitigation, Sakdirat Kaewunruen, Alex M. Remennikov Jun 2015

Under Sleeper Pads: Field Investigation Of Their Role In Detrimental Impact Mitigation, Sakdirat Kaewunruen, Alex M. Remennikov

Sakdirat Kaewunruen

Under sleeper pads (USPs) are the component installed under the concrete sleepers generally to improve railway track resilience. Initial development in Europe, particularly in Austria, has encouraged the adoption of the component around the world. In practice, the component has commonly been used in certain applications, mainly to moderate track stiffness in special locations such as turnouts, crossings, and level crossing. In heavy haul operation, the heavier wagons result in sturdier bogie structures, higher unsprung mass, and then higher level of wheel-rail interaction forces. Accordingly, the application of USPs to mitigate detrimental impact load consequence on track structure is presented …

Adrian Bonilla-Petriciolet

This paper reports new insights on the role of the inorganic composition of bone char on its sorption properties for the removal of heavy metals Cd2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions from aqueous solution. In particular, we showed the importance of both composition and surface chemistry of bone char on its sorption properties for the removal of these metal ions in aqueous solution. Results of physicochemical characterization and sorption studies suggest that the inorganic phase of bone char may contribute from 60 to 92% of the sorption process of heavy metals in aqueous solution. In particular, the ion exchange process of …

Think Outside The Box: New Materials, Design Application, And Performance Of Railway Turnout Bearers, Sakdirat Kaewunruen

Sakdirat Kaewunruen

Railway turnout systems are a main feature in railway tracks. There are two types of turnout support structures, which can be designed to be either a slab or a cluster of discrete bearers. The choice of turnout support system depends on asset management strategy of the rail operators or maintainers. This paper will focus on the discrete turnout bearer system where turnout alignments, settlement and deformation are comparatively more flexible and retrievable by routine ballast tamping. It embraces the consideration of new materials for use as a turnout bearer. Traditional bearer materials are timber, steel, and concrete. Recent developments have …

History Of Innovation In Extractive Metallurgy, Fathi Habashi

Fathi Habashi

People learned melting of ores to get metals since ancient times but the use of aqueous solutions for this purpose was introduced relatively recently in the Middle Ages. The most recent technology, however, came when electric current became available on commercial scale towards the middle of the nineteenth century. The present article records in general terms the development in pyro- , hydro-, and electrometallurgy

Criterion For An Oscillatory Charged Jet During The Bubble Spinning Process, Ji-Huan He, H.Y. Kong Jan 2014

Criterion For An Oscillatory Charged Jet During The Bubble Spinning Process, Ji-Huan He, H.Y. Kong

Ji-Huan He

The oscillatory diameter of the charged jet during the bubble electrospinning results in beads on the obtained nanofibers. We demonstrate that the applied voltage and the initial flow rate of the jet are the crucial parameters that are necessary to control morphology of the nanofibers. We also find that there is a criterion for production of smooth nanofibers without beads. The theory developed in this paper can be extended to the classical electrospinning and the blown bubble-spinning.
