Seismic Behavior Of Screen Grid Core Insulated Concrete Form Walls, Anwer Sabah Mohammed Mohammed Mar 2019

Seismic Behavior Of Screen Grid Core Insulated Concrete Form Walls, Anwer Sabah Mohammed Mohammed

Dissertations and Theses

The use of the insulated concrete form (ICF) walls in residential buildings has increased over the past few decades. Much research has been conducted to evaluate the lateral strength of these walls by applying monotonic and cyclic loadings. In the current study, full-scale shake table experiments were employed to evaluate the in-plane behavior of four screen grid insulated concrete form (SGICF) walls. The first two wall specimens utilized dry fit insulated form blocks made from recycled expanded polystyrene granules that were bonded together with cement. When stacked, the cavities in the blocks formed a grid of cores that are evenly …

Experimental Investigation Of Cfrp Wrapped Square Non-Ductile Reinforced Concrete Columns, Hayder Lateef Al-Khafaji Nov 2016

Experimental Investigation Of Cfrp Wrapped Square Non-Ductile Reinforced Concrete Columns, Hayder Lateef Al-Khafaji

Dissertations and Theses

The use of fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) for retrofitting or strengthening deficient concrete columns noticeably increased in the past few decades. Plenty of research has been conducted on the behavior of FRP-strengthened circular concrete columns, but far less research has dealt with non-circular columns. In the current study, the focus was to investigate the behavior of square columns with low to medium grade concrete and low steel reinforcement that were strengthened using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) wrap. In the experimental portion of this investigation, twelve short square reinforced concrete columns (5" x 5" in cross section and 12" high) were …

Cyclic Loading Behavior Of Cfrp-Wrapped Non-Ductile Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Joints, Ali S. H. Zerkane May 2016

Cyclic Loading Behavior Of Cfrp-Wrapped Non-Ductile Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Joints, Ali S. H. Zerkane

Dissertations and Theses

Use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) material has been a good solution for many problems in many fields. FRP is available in different types (carbon and glass) and shapes (sheets, rods, and laminates). Civil engineers have used this material to overcome the weakness of concrete members that may have been caused by substandard design or due to changes in the load distribution or to correct the weakness of concrete structures over time specially those subjected to hostile weather conditions. The attachment of FRP material to concrete surfaces to promote the function of the concrete members within the frame system is …

Experimental Investigation Of Lateral Cyclic Behavior Of Wood-Based Screen-Grid Insulated Concrete Form Walls, John Stuart Garth Jun 2014

Experimental Investigation Of Lateral Cyclic Behavior Of Wood-Based Screen-Grid Insulated Concrete Form Walls, John Stuart Garth

Dissertations and Theses

Insulated concrete forms (ICFs) are green building components that are primarily used for residential wall construction. Unlike most polystyrene based ICF variants, the Faswall ICFs used in these experiments were significantly denser because they were made from recycled wood particles and cement. The current design approach for structures constructed with this type of wall form only allows the designer to consider the contribution of the reinforced concrete cores. Previous research has shown that this approach may be conservative. This project experimentally evaluated the lateral structural response of these types of grid ICF walls under increasing amplitude of in-plane cyclic loading. …

Non-Linear Behavior Of Unbraced Two-Bay Reinforced Concrete Frames, Mehdi Shadyab Jan 1980

Non-Linear Behavior Of Unbraced Two-Bay Reinforced Concrete Frames, Mehdi Shadyab

Dissertations and Theses

In this investigation, the primary objective was to study the nonlinear behavior of unbraced two-bay concrete frames and to determine the extent to which ultimate load theory or limit design can be applied to these structures. The frame behavior was investigated analytically by two methods. In the first method the frame stability equation was derived assuming that members of the frame possess an elasto-plastic moment-curvature relationship. This stability analysis was also carried out by another model consisting of a column attached to a linear spring and carrying the total frame load. The second method was through a computer program which …

Limit Design Of Unbraced Reinforced Concrete Frames, Thomas Joseph Gavin Jul 1977

Limit Design Of Unbraced Reinforced Concrete Frames, Thomas Joseph Gavin

Dissertations and Theses

The main objective of this study was to determine whether Limit Design could be applied to low-rise unbraced concrete frames. The investigation was carried out both analytically and experimentally.

In the analytical part, two mathematical models were used to determine the behavior of unbraced frames. The first method used a nonlinear computer program, which takes into account the material and geometric nonlinearities of concrete frames. Several cases of frames with different reinforcement ratios and under different beam to column load ratios were investigated. For each frame the gravity loads were increased proportionately to 3/4 of the ultimate frame capacity. Then, …

An Experimental Investigation Of Unbraced Reinforced Concrete Frames, Nourollah Samiee Nejad May 1977

An Experimental Investigation Of Unbraced Reinforced Concrete Frames, Nourollah Samiee Nejad

Dissertations and Theses

The main objective of this investigation is to study experimentally the behavior of rectangular reinforced concrete frames subject to a combination of low column loads, beam loads, and lateral load. The analytical tool used in this investigation is a computer program which is a generalized computational method for non linear force deformation relationship and secondary forces due to displacement of the joints during loading.

In the experimental portion of this investigation, two rectangular frames, one design by the Ultimate Strength Design method and the other by a Limit Design method were prepared and tested to failure with short time loading. …
