Exploring Length-Based Vehicle Count Data, Byad Ahmed
Exploring Length-Based Vehicle Count Data, Byad Ahmed
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
The development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) requires high-quality traffic information within most urban areas worldwide, and under growing pressure for improving traffic management, there has been an increasing urge to collecting and monitoring of traffic data. One of the most reliable and recommended technology for drive thru or traffic control is the loop vehicle detection system. On the Portland freeway system, new software has been installed that allows the reporting of vehicle length in bins. This research investigates the use of this data (length based) by exploring time series analyses of the vehicle counts as freight and non-freight movement.
Potential Of Using High Resolution Bus Gps Data To Assess Traffic Speeds, Nicholas B. Stoll
Potential Of Using High Resolution Bus Gps Data To Assess Traffic Speeds, Nicholas B. Stoll
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
This research investigates the potential of using archived high resolution bus data to describe traffic speeds on roadways; effectively using buses as probe vehicles. This is not only a simple and inexpensive way for transit agencies to better understand their road networks, but also utilizing buses as probe vehicles provides the potential to understand traffic conditions, to understand potential consequences of changes in road infrastructure, and many aspects of traffic utilizing already archived data. Using speed information derived from high resolution bus GPS data and stationary sensor data, this research examines the accuracy of bus GPS data and also discusses …
Performance Implications Of Bicycle Specific Treatments At Signalized Intersections, Andrew Kading
Performance Implications Of Bicycle Specific Treatments At Signalized Intersections, Andrew Kading
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
A rise in cycling nationwide has brought an increased awareness of bicycle specific safety concerns, particularly right-hook crashes at signalized intersections. There are several common and emerging signal timing strategies that are can be used to improve the safety and efficiency of traffic signals for people on bicycles, including the Leading Bicycle Intervals (LBI), Split LBI, and Exclusive Bicycle Phasing (EBP). The leading and split bicycle intervals provide a head start for bicycles in advance of concurrent and conflicting motor vehicle movements, typically about 3-5 seconds. The EBP provides an interval only when bicycles are moving. To examine the performance …
3d Hydrodynamic Model Development And Verification, Hussein A. M. Al-Zubaidi
3d Hydrodynamic Model Development And Verification, Hussein A. M. Al-Zubaidi
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
A three-dimensional numerical model was developed to simulate hydrodynamic, temperature, and water quality distributions in rivers and lakes. In an attempt to get rid of the extra approximation and complexity, no coordinate transformation has been done and z-coordinate system has been employed. The governing equations are the continuity equation, free surface equation, momentum equations, and conservation equations of temperature and water quality. The model employs the time splitting technique which allows splitting the directions in which we end with two-dimensional governing equations and eventually the solution ends with a tri-diagonal matrix, which is easily solved by Thomas algorithm. The first …
Structural Design Issues Of "Hexapod" Foundations For Wind Turbine Towers, Chad A. Norvell
Structural Design Issues Of "Hexapod" Foundations For Wind Turbine Towers, Chad A. Norvell
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
The current practice for wind turbine foundations is to use massive cast-in-place concrete spread footings or complex pile-supported foundations. Wind turbine generator components and the towers that support them are pre-fabricated and assembled on site, leaving the foundation as the only component of the wind turbine system requiring major in situ construction. The new "hexapod" foundation concept is fully pre-fabricated, uses a fraction of the quantity of concrete used in conventional foundations, and may be dismantled and re-used elsewhere. The wind turbine tower is attached to a steel or concrete hub which is attached to six radial, precast, post-tensioned concrete …
A Study On The Current State Of Contaminants Of Concern Research, With A Focus On Biosolids And Regulations, Maren Mariah Fulton
A Study On The Current State Of Contaminants Of Concern Research, With A Focus On Biosolids And Regulations, Maren Mariah Fulton
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
Wastewater treatment plants are a major source of contaminants of emerging concern, as these facilities are the main receptors of these products via household, commercial, and industrial drains, and transport via stormwater runoff. Biosolids are composed of numerous constituents, with a number of environmentally persistent and potentially toxic contaminants of emerging concern identified as present in large concentrations. Research is needed to understand the transport and fate mechanisms of these compounds in biosolids. Additionally, this research is needed to determine a new priority framework to regulate CECs, both on the national level and regional levels. Wastewater treatment plant influent and …
Behavior Of Concrete Beams With Corroded Reinforcement Retrofitted With Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer, Needa Marwan Lingga
Behavior Of Concrete Beams With Corroded Reinforcement Retrofitted With Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer, Needa Marwan Lingga
Civil and Environmental Engineering Master's Project Reports
Severe premature deterioration has been reported in a large number of reinforced concrete (RC) structures in corrosive environments. This research project focused on the behavior of beams that contained corroded steel and were retrofitted with CFRP. The steel in RC beams were assumed to be fully corroded, representing the most severe loss in steel cross-section. Unidirectional CFRP sheets were used to strengthen the deteriorated beams. The experimental program included testing five simply supported rectangular cross section concrete beams. All beams were approximately 1/3rd scale models, 4in. x 6in. cross sections, and 6ft. long. In three beams, the oiled steel …
