Design And Theoretical Analysis Of Advanced Power Based Positioning In Rf System, Lei Wang Jan 2017

Design And Theoretical Analysis Of Advanced Power Based Positioning In Rf System, Lei Wang

Doctoral Dissertations

"Accurate locating and tracking of people and resources has become a fundamental requirement for many applications. The global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) is widely used. But its accuracy suffers from signal obstruction by buildings, multipath fading, and disruption due to jamming and spoof. Hence, it is required to supplement GPS with inertial sensors and indoor localization schemes that make use of WiFi APs or beacon nodes. In the GPS-challenging or fault scenario, radio-frequency (RF) infrastructure based localization schemes can be a fallback solution for robust navigation. For the indoor/outdoor transition scenario, we propose hypothesis test based fusion method to integrate …

Node Localization In Underwater Sensor Networks (Uwsn), Huai Huang Jan 2017

Node Localization In Underwater Sensor Networks (Uwsn), Huai Huang

Doctoral Dissertations

"This dissertation focuses on node localization in underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) where anchor nodes have knowledge of their own locations and communicate with sensor nodes in acoustic or magnetic induction (MI) means. The sensor nodes utilize the communication signals and the locations of anchor nodes to locate themselves and propagate their locations through the network.

For UWSN using MI communications, this dissertation proposes two localization methods: rotation matrix (RM)-based method and the distance-based method. Both methods require only two anchor nodes with arbitrarily oriented tri-directional coils to locate one sensor node in the 3-D space, thus having advantages in …

Proactive Strategies In Personal Dose Monitoring, Prevention And Mitigation, Manish Kumar Sharma Jan 2016

Proactive Strategies In Personal Dose Monitoring, Prevention And Mitigation, Manish Kumar Sharma

Doctoral Dissertations

"At certain threshold, nuclear radiation (like x-rays and gamma-rays) may adversely impact the health of living tissues. The exposure to these radiations in nuclear facilities is measured by devices called dosimeters. The devices are generally worn on the torso and are monitored by health physics division to report the radiation dose received by the personnel. However, this approach is not proactive--since the dosimeters reflect the dose that has already been absorbed in the body of the wearer.

This work presents a scheme to proactively avoid large dose acquisition at radiation-prone facilities. The work was divided into three major segments: (i) …

Detection, Identification And Localization Of R/C Electronic Devices Through Their Unintended Emissions, Vivek Thotla Jan 2015

Detection, Identification And Localization Of R/C Electronic Devices Through Their Unintended Emissions, Vivek Thotla

Doctoral Dissertations

"The accurate and reliable detection of unintended emissions from radio receivers has a broad range of commercial and security applications. This thesis presents detection, identification, and localization methods for multiple RC electronic devices in a realistic environment. First, a Hurst parameter based detection method for super-regenerative receivers (SRR) has been used for detection. Hurst parameter based detection method exploits a self-similarity property of the SRR receiver emissions to distinguish it from background noise. Second paper presents a novel detection and localization scheme of multiple RC electronic devices called Edge-Synthetic Aperture Radar (Edge-SAR). It employs cost-effective, mobile antenna-array detectors. Two types …
