3d Bionic Arm, Anny Baez Silfa Dec 2021

3d Bionic Arm, Anny Baez Silfa

Publications and Research

Previous work had been done on what was an adaptation of a robotic arm for Roboqueen, which is a persistent research project of the Department of Computer Engineering Technology. This robotic arm consisted of removing the cardboard hands from the Roboqueen and being replaced by 3D printed fingers and wrists to add functionality that did not exist before. Servo motors connected to Arduinos hidden in the forearm will be used to move the fingers and pick up and hold objects in the hand. Currently, the Finger Myoware is an update of the robotic arm in order to understand how prosthetic …

Child Detection System For Preventing Hot-Car Death, Touheda Khanom, Fahmeda Khanom Dec 2021

Child Detection System For Preventing Hot-Car Death, Touheda Khanom, Fahmeda Khanom

Publications and Research

According to the Safety Organization Kids and Cars, an average of 38 children die each year from hot cars due to lack of attention from parents. Existing alert system uses sensors that detect child presence and care less about detecting temperature inside the car. In order to save children from heatstroke, our research focuses on providing information about the temperature inside the car using very effective sensors with high precision. In our research, we have tested different sensors and figured out three sensors that can provide precise information about the presence of a child without an adult. Our child detection …

Force-Feedback Design For Robotics: Bio-Based Design And Simulation, Husnain Khan, Zhou Zhang Dec 2021

Force-Feedback Design For Robotics: Bio-Based Design And Simulation, Husnain Khan, Zhou Zhang

Publications and Research

The great challenge for the Virtual Assembly Platform is how to make the users have the in-person feeling with the augmented tools. Hands are the most important organs that are used to provide touch feeling. In a real assembly scenario, the force from the components and tools will be feedback to the brain via the hands. Unfortunately, the virtual assembly failed to mimic the in-person scenarios since it will not provide such kind of feedback. As a result, the users’ real identities are lost. Then, the users’ slower-progressing wrong habits will prevent them from success in the future. Therefore, it …

Preventing Transmission Of Covid 19 In Hvac Duct Systems: Implementations Of Hvac System Design Upgrade, Jacob S. Lopez, Adama Barro Jun 2021

Preventing Transmission Of Covid 19 In Hvac Duct Systems: Implementations Of Hvac System Design Upgrade, Jacob S. Lopez, Adama Barro

Publications and Research

The recent pandemic outbreak has triggered a global alarm to increase efforts on finding the best methods to mitigate contagious viral pathogens. This project is a continuation of our mission to study engineering guidelines needed to implement upgrades to HVAC Systems in order to deter airborne pathogens such as the covid-19 virus. In our previous projects we researched how covid-19 can possibly flow through the ambient air inside of restaurants, office spaces, and locomotive train cabins. As we continued our research, we were able to find some solutions that will be best used to deactivate and prevent the virus from …

Data-Driven Indoor Localization In The Internet Of Things, Shervorn Mathews May 2021

Data-Driven Indoor Localization In The Internet Of Things, Shervorn Mathews

Publications and Research

Indoor localization is difficult because of issues regarding the physics of signal propagation and multipath interference. Satellite-based technologies such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are unreliable indoors due to the signal attenuation during propagation and the multi-path interference. A data-driven process using the massive amounts of data available in smart devices may be the solution to this problem as they don’t rely on sophisticated indoor propagation models like traditional methods. The emergence of methods in machine learning society can be used to fulfill this task. The objective is to estimate the location of a person in a room using Received …

The challenge we face in implementing solutions for new HVAC ventilation and filtration design, is to effectively improve air quality for virus mitigation without losing performance efficiency. The purpose of this improvement is to decontaminate the occupied enclosed areas, reducing the transmission of the corona virus aerosol transmission. Our research seeks reliable approaches to mitigate the further spread of aerosol transmission in indoor spaces. The methodology is to examine innovative HVAC engineering solutions that combat epidemiological problems of Covid-19 for the post-pandemic era, by researching scholarly articles and ASHRAE journals. We are achieving the goal of finding highly efficient resolutions …
