Energy Harvesting Sensors And Their Role In Fostering Sustainable Air Quality Monitoring, Tomas Valentin, Li Geng Dec 2023

Energy Harvesting Sensors And Their Role In Fostering Sustainable Air Quality Monitoring, Tomas Valentin, Li Geng

Publications and Research

This research presents a comprehensive investigation into Energy Harvesting Sensors and their role in fostering sustainable air quality monitoring. The primary objective is to explore the viability of energy harvesting technologies in energizing sensor networks devoted to the real-time collection of air quality data, emphasizing the reduction of environmental impact and maintenance demands. The study delves into the integration of energy harvesting mechanisms, including solar and piezoelectric kinetic energy, to power advanced sensor nodes capable of detecting pollutants, particulate matter, and gas concentrations. The findings of this research highlight the significant benefits of energy harvesting sensors, including enhanced sustainability, long-term …

Use Of Ai And Machine Learning For Engineering Applications, Max Rios Carballo Dec 2022

Use Of Ai And Machine Learning For Engineering Applications, Max Rios Carballo

Publications and Research

In this paper, we examine how artificial intelligence (AI) and computer-based intelligence (CBI) may be used to address design challenges. We examine artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) as they relate to developing applications from the inside out, highlighting the most challenging issues as well as intriguing research areas for further consideration.

Technical Report: Solving Global Problems [Composition], Lara V. Kattekola

Open Educational Resources

This assignment was developed as part of a 2018-19 Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) -sponsored Learning Matters Global Learning Mini-grant awarded to support the ENG 259 Technical Writing course. This course is required for engineering students as the second course in their composition sequence to be taken in lieu of ENG 102. The aim of the mini-grant was to integrate LaGuardia’s Global Learning Core Competency into the ENG 259 course via the development of a high stakes global learning assignment. The assignment was developed during the Fall 2018 CTL Learning Matters Mini-Grant seminar meetings led by Drs. Karen Miller …

Engineering Laboratory 101, Reginald Eze

Open Educational Resources

This lab introduces students to the fatigue failure of steels, plastics and ceramics when they are stressed in a controlled manner until they fail. Materials are subjected to repeated stress called fatigue and fatigue properties of different materials vary with type, source, quality, type and duration of applied stress.

Teaching Electrical Circuits Using A Virtual Lab, Md Zahidur Rahman Apr 2014

Teaching Electrical Circuits Using A Virtual Lab, Md Zahidur Rahman

Publications and Research

This paper describes an engineering professor’s first attempt at designing and implementing a scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) study in a basic electrical circuits course at LaGuardia Community College. Inspired by his understanding of Lee Shulman’s (2005) concept of “signature pedagogy” and Eric Mazur’s emphasis on student-centered approaches (2009, November 12), and aware that his students did not always understand the electrical theories and concepts presented in class, the author decided to change his pedagogy. He explains his efforts to train his students to think as engineers, first by making them more “visible” and “accountable” in the classroom, and …
