The Positivication Of Coalgebraic Logics, Fredrik Dahlqvist, Alexander Kurz
The Positivication Of Coalgebraic Logics, Fredrik Dahlqvist, Alexander Kurz
Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
We present positive coalgebraic logic in full generality, and show how to obtain a positive coalgebraic logic from a boolean one. On the model side this involves canonically computing a endofunctor T': Pos->Pos from an endofunctor T: Set->Set, in a procedure previously defined by the second author et alii called posetification. On the syntax side, it involves canonically computing a syntax-building functor L': DL->DL from a syntax-building functor L: BA->BA, in a dual procedure which we call positivication. These operations are interesting in their own right and we explicitly compute posetifications and positivications in the case …
Evaluating The Performance Of Multiple Classifier Systems: A Matrix Algebra Representation Of Boolean Fusion Rules, Justin M. Hill
Evaluating The Performance Of Multiple Classifier Systems: A Matrix Algebra Representation Of Boolean Fusion Rules, Justin M. Hill
Theses and Dissertations
Given a finite collection of classifiers one might wish to combine, or fuse, the classifiers in hopes that the multiple classifier system (MCS) will perform better than the individuals. One method of fusing classifiers is to combine their final decision using Boolean rules (e.g., a logical OR, AND, or a majority vote of the classifiers in the system). An established method for evaluating a classifier is measuring some aspect of its Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve, which graphs the trade-off between the conditional probabilities of detection and false alarm. This work presents a unique method of estimating the performance of …
Boolean Reasoning And Informed Search In The Minimization Of Logic Circuits, James J. Kainec
Boolean Reasoning And Informed Search In The Minimization Of Logic Circuits, James J. Kainec
Theses and Dissertations
The minimization of logic circuits has been an important area of research for more than a half century. The approaches taken in this field, however, have for the most part been ad hoc. Boolean techniques have been employed to manipulate formulas, but not to perform symbolic reasoning. Boolean equations are employed principally as icons; they are never solved. The first objective of this dissertation is to apply Boolean reasoning systematically and uniformly to the minimization problem. Boolean reasoning entails the reduction of systems of Boolean equations to a single equation; the single equation is an abstraction, independent of the form …
