However, the current trajectory of automotive technology is rife with roadblocks to accessible interaction and inclusion for this demographic. While marker-based motion capture remains the gold standard in measuring human movement, accuracy is influenced by soft-tissue artifacts, particularly for subjects with high body mass index (BMI) where markers are not placed close to the underlying bone. Obesity influences joint loads and motion patterns, and BMI may not be sufficient to capture the distribution of a subject’s weight or to differentiate differences between subjects. Subjects in need of a joint replacement are more likely to have mobility issues or pain, which prevents exercise. Obesity also increases the likelihood of needing a total joint replacement. This thesis shows that distributed consensus systems based on proof of work are vulnerable to hashrate-based double-spending attacks due to abuse of majority rule. Through building a private fork of Litecoin and executing a double-spending attack this thesis examines the mechanics and principles behind the attack. This thesis also conducts a survey of preventative measures used to deter double-spending attacks, concluding that a decentralized peer-to-peer network using proof of work is best protected by the addition of an observer system whether internal or external.

While the use of reference-frames is well understood in physical sciences, how the brain uses reference-frames remains a fundamental question. Custom hardware implementations of spiking neural networks present many advantages over other implementation mediums. Two main topics are the focus of this work. Firstly, digital hardware implementations of spiking neurons and neuromorphic hardware are explored and presented. Multi-view stereo is a popular method for 3D-reconstruction. Super resolution is a technique used to produce high resolution output from low resolution input. Since the quality of 3D-reconstruction is directly dependent on the input, a simple path is to improve the resolution of the input.

In this dissertation, we explore the idea of using super resolution to improve 3D-reconstruction at the input stage of the multi-view stereo framework. In particular, we show that multi-view stereo when combined with multi-frame super resolution produces a more accurate 3D-reconstruction.

This thesis focuses primarily on enhancing the image quality of blurred license plates through the use of Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Networks (SRGANs) [1]. We propose a synthetic dataset with SRGAN model to promote blurred image quality enhancement, and allow for model evaluation on a multitude of image input and output size combinations. SRGAN is mainly used for low-resolution image enhancement, but by heavily blurring the input images, the model is tested on its ability to blindly deblur and upsample images to the desired super-resolution (SR) size.
