Difficulties In Interpreting Alkali Metal Trends At The Senior Chemistry Level, Kevin C. De Berg Nov 2001

Difficulties In Interpreting Alkali Metal Trends At The Senior Chemistry Level, Kevin C. De Berg

Science and Mathematics Papers and Journal Articles

Differences in alkali metal reactivity with water are often explained in terms of first ionization energy trends in the Periodic Table. The reasons for the difference are explored in terms of the thermodynamics in each case and De Berg shows that differences in alkali metal reactivity with water are more appropriately explained in terms of the kinetics of the reactions.
