Clinical laboratories across the nation are faced with a shortage of qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) and Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLSs). As the clinical laboratory workforce continues to shrink, it is essential that higher education institutions acknowledge the employment needs of rural laboratories to ensure quality health care in underserved areas. An aging workforce, program closures, and a general increase in demand for laboratory testing have compounded the workforce shortage for rural clinical laboratories, which often face unique challenges. As with any sub-population of college stu­dents, there is a great deal of variance among individual LGBTQ students in terms of their ex­pectations and desires when it comes to choos­ing or persisting at a particular college. Perhaps the one unifying objective among members of this group is a goal common to almost every student at every level of study: to find an edu­cational environment in which the student will feel valued and supported while pursuing his or her educational goals. To this end, LGBTQ stu­dents have unique needs that historically have gone unaddressed.

The collection consists of the office files of the West Virginia Association of Colleges and Universities from 1961 until 1974, when the Association underwent reorganization. Included in these files are minutes of the meetings of the Board of Directors, correspondence, and financial reports. The records of the West Virginia Committee for Higher Education comprise a major portion of the collection.

Included in this portion are correspondence, drafts of legislative bills and studies pursuant to the establishment of the Board of Regents. Also included are scrapbooks, study material, books, and slides.
