Cellular And Enzymatic Basis For Carnitine-Mediated Attenuation Of Ethanol Metabolism, Youn-Soo Cha Aug 1993

Cellular And Enzymatic Basis For Carnitine-Mediated Attenuation Of Ethanol Metabolism, Youn-Soo Cha

Doctoral Dissertations

(From the Introduction)

Alcohol (ethanol) is the most widely used of psychoactive drug and has been known in almost all civilizations since ancient times (Keller 1979). There are millions of people throughout the world who responsibly enjoy consuming alcoholic beverages served as food, medicines, and euphoriants. However, alcohol abuse, alcohol intolerance, alcohol dependence and other alcohol-related disabilities are some of the most challenging social, economical and public health problems facing our modern-day society. In the United states alone, the annual cost of lost productivitity and health expenses related to alcohol is estimated to be $117 billion (Hoek et …

Consumer Use Of Innovativeness: An Empirical Conceptualization, Kyungae Park Aug 1993

Consumer Use Of Innovativeness: An Empirical Conceptualization, Kyungae Park

Doctoral Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to empirically conceptualize consumer use innovative behavior. By separating use and purchase in innovative behavior, comparing these two innovative behaviors, and identifying the best predictor variables of use innovative behavior over the adoption and post-adoption processes, this study investigated whether use innovative behavior was a viable concept in consumer behavior.

Based on the theoretical framework of consumer innovative behavior and post-adoption usage behavior, this study tested use innovativeness for the clothing product. College students of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville participated in the questionnaire survey for data collection. Five hundred thirty nine responses were …

A Fundamental Investigation Of The Effects Of Die Geometry And Process Variables On Fiber Diameter And Quality Of Melt Blown Polypropylene Webs, Ahamad Yacub A. Khan May 1993

A Fundamental Investigation Of The Effects Of Die Geometry And Process Variables On Fiber Diameter And Quality Of Melt Blown Polypropylene Webs, Ahamad Yacub A. Khan

Doctoral Dissertations

An elaborate investigation was carried out to study the effects of die geometry and process variables on fiber diameter and shot formation of melt blown polypropylene webs. This four part investigation included the study of die orifice di mansions such as diameter and UD ratio, die geometry variables such as nosetip angle, air gap, nosetip setback, face gap, and process variables such as polymer throughput rate, volumetric flow rate of primary air, die-to-collector-distance, resin melt flow rate (MFR), and melt shear viscosity. Also the effects of different process variables on physical and mechanical properties of the webs were studied during …

Analysis Of Ties, Tie Systems, And Attachment Methods Of Fibrous Sandals Of Tsegi Phase (Pueblo Iii) Kayenta Branch, From Tsegi Canyon, Arizona, Diana Law Christensen May 1993

Analysis Of Ties, Tie Systems, And Attachment Methods Of Fibrous Sandals Of Tsegi Phase (Pueblo Iii) Kayenta Branch, From Tsegi Canyon, Arizona, Diana Law Christensen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Forty-three Pueblo III sandals and sandal fragments from four sites in Tsegi Canyon, Arizona, were analyzed to develop tie terminology, identify possible correlation of tie system to sandal construction, and identify characteristics for future tie research. Each piece of sandal tie cordage was analyzed for tie system type, tie attachment method, and tie cordage structure.

Three overall tie systems were found: toe-heel tie systems (nine sandals), criss-cross tie system (one sandal), and side loop tie systems (fifteen sandals) Five additional sandals (narrow, two-warp plainweave construction) had possible toe-heel tie systems. Tie systems of six sandals were not distinguishable between toe-heel …

Five Steps To Wardrobe Versatility, Louise Young Jan 1993

Five Steps To Wardrobe Versatility, Louise Young

All Archived Publications

Clothes are an essential necessity for all of us. The first thing we do in the morning for school, work, and other activities is get dressed. Getting dressed may be a major frustration if the clothes in our closet don't take care of our lifestyle needs. Mornings can easily begin in turmoil when we can't find the right thing to wear. Our clothing decisions are dependent on our own lifestyle, personality, values, coloring, and body proportions. It is difficult for another person to determine what our individual clothing needs are. To achieve a versatile wardrobe that is suited to individual …

The Use Of Generic Teaching Materials Versus Brand Specific Teaching Materials With Home Economics Food And Nutrition Students, Lyn Blackwell Jan 1993

The Use Of Generic Teaching Materials Versus Brand Specific Teaching Materials With Home Economics Food And Nutrition Students, Lyn Blackwell

Theses : Honours

Studies have found that between 80 and 90 percent of home economics teachers use commercially sponsored teaching materials in their classrooms. The literature suggests that in some cases teachers do not have the skills for evaluating these materials and may be unsuspectingly endorsing the products used in their classrooms. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not the use of brand specific teaching materials had the potential to influence the development of brand awareness in Year 8 Food for Fitness students exposed to these materials. Test instruments which reflect Fishbein's theory of reasoned action were developed to …
