However, many of the women are not royal, but have equal or more power and influence over the ones who are royal or over the state. I will analyze queenship and the types of queens and non-queens in the works of Jean Racine that will reveal the importance of power and influence in women in 17th century French theatre.

In 2009, Patterson, Kirschke, Seaton and Hossfeld revisited the ongoing conversation about gender inequity and inequality in higher education. Their work entitled Challenges for Women Department Chairs (New Prairie Press, 2009) focused on the numerous gaps – salary, promotion, discrimination, harassment -- that define women’s experiences in academic leadership. The emerging trends in academia still suggest that the work that they started in 2009 continues to be a vital concern for women in academic leadership positions. African American women, welfare, and education and training are the focus of this research. Narrative Inquiry methodology was used to explore this qualitative study and it is grounded in the Africentric paradigm (Colin, III, 2010) utilizing the Womanist Epistemological Perspective (Sheared, 1994, 2010) for the unit of analysis. This study “gives voice” (Sheared 1994) to African American women authentic lived experiences (Colin, III, 2007) who have used the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. Women and people of color are particularly underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) disciplines. This mixed methods study surveyed 527 engineers and interviewed eight female engineers to examine the current culture climate for diversity in engineering worksites, and how gender, race, and age intersect and affect engineers‘ perceptions of organizational inclusiveness and the learning environment surrounding diversity. African American women are significantly underrepresented in engineering workplace organizations. However, the primary focus, in the field, is on the STEM pipeline in K-12 and undergraduate education. If the engineering community does not address contributing factors in workplace organizations, then the overall goal of increasing the underrepresented populations in the engineering field will not be met. As a result, this study examines the career experiences of African American female engineers to understand the challenges, which impact their development. Implications for research and practice are given to support this population and other underrepresented groups in STEM.

Theoretical developments in the field of transformative learning have progressed significantly over the past two decades, yet little attention has been paid to women’s experiences of transformative learning and to the issues of race, class and gender in this learning. We explore the apparent hesitation at both the personal and political ends of the transformative learning spectrum, and help to create alliances and strengthen the theory.
