This research explores the implementation of instrumental versions of modern day music during guided reading groups as a teaching tool to assist students’ reading comprehension. The purpose of this study is to better support all students’ reading comprehension skills through implementing music as a tool during guided reading lessons. Data were collected for this study over a period of four weeks using running reading records, a retelling assessment, an interview, and observation notes during guided reading lessons. Data were analyzed for how the music impacted students’ reading comprehension as a whole.

This research discusses the relationship between oral language development and social development. The primary goal of the study was to explore the use of expressive oral language within social situations in primary aged children. Data were collected over the course of six weeks. Data were collected using audio recordings, pre and post interviews and surveys, and observations. The data were analyzed to determine if and how students use oral language in social situations. The findings proved that students were able to improve their oral language skills within social situations.

The special education population in schools in the United States shows a significant disproportionality between male and female students. Often special education referrals are made due, in part, to student underperformance in reading and basic literacy skills. Using past studies regarding best practices for literacy instruction, gender studies, and special education, the current study looks to understand what teachers can do to eliminate the inequality in special education referrals between genders in school-aged children. How well doctoral students in special education are prepared to evaluate research as evidence-based practice (EBP) is likely to impact their careers, as well as the teachers they will train. In developing a method for evaluating the readiness of small cohort groups of doctoral students to apply a research-based model of EBP, an instrument and procedure were refined in a pilot evaluation and implemented within a multiple baseline design across participants. This analytical review explores the impact of assistive technology (AT) on academic achievement for students with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities in pre-K to 12 th -grade classrooms. Extant scholarly literature from 2010 to 2015 is examined in this analytical review. A Meta-Analysis Of Peer-Mediated Interventions For Young Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders., Jie Zhang, John J. Wheeler

This meta-analysis investigated the efficacy of peer-mediated interventions for promoting social interactions among children from birth to eight years of age diagnosed with ASD. Forty-five single-subject design studies were analyzed and the effect sizes were calculated by the regression model developed by Allison and Gorman (1993). The overall effect sizes suggest that peer-mediated interventions were highly effective. Research was conducted to assess the patterns of physical activity participation, sources of social support and friendship dynamics among children with low vision. Twenty-four male and female children between the ages of 8 and 14 years with low vision (20/70 to 20/400) completed a questionnaire related to their participation in physical activity. Results indicate that the children are active at school in physical education classes, at home and in community recreation programs.

The research shows that they also have significant social supports and their friendship dynamics are positive.
