Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of informational tests on physical fitness to select children for football.
Methods: When monitoring the strength and speed-strength indicators of young football players, a special device was used, the "BEDRO", which made it possible to determine the following groups of indicators:
Fmах – the maximum value of the explosive force of the muscles in the explosive isometric mode;
J - the coefficient characterizing the explosive strength of muscles in the isometric mode; J = Fмах / t (kg/s);
Q – starting power. Q = 0.5 Fmах / t1 (kg/s); …

The resolution of any dilemmas related to the implementation of the curriculum must take into account its objectives, generally speaking, developing the readiness of students to participate independently in health-motivated, sporting and aesthetically-motivated physical activity and to take health promoting measures. This article describes the assumptions of the original modular physical education programme for the first stage of education in the aspect of track and field. The physical education programme was designed for use in classes where the number of hours of compulsory physical education classes has been extended or for work with students with special physical abilities.

An Evaluation Of Efl Textbooks Used In Higher Education, Alma Lama, Diana Sejdiu, Eglantina Bilalli
UBT International Conference
In English as a Foreign Language/English as a Second Language (EFL/ESL) contexts, textbooks are simultaneously important. Indeed, textbooks contain the syllabus, which is being expected by teachers to follow more or less faithfully, with end-of-course exams being based exclusively on textbook content. In this study, we will investigate the selection of English language textbooks as tools used in public and private universities. We will look at the levels of content, and what textbooks include and exclude in terms of topic, linguistic information, pedagogy, and culture. We will also examine how teachers and learners use textbooks and the processes by which …
Comprehensive Leadership Development: Principal Characteristics, Experience And Performance, Gregory Basham
Comprehensive Leadership Development: Principal Characteristics, Experience And Performance, Gregory Basham
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The significance of the principal’s role in creating a generative learning environment to influence student achievement is well documented in research (Davis et al., 2017; Hitt & Tucker, 2016; Leithwood, 2012; Leithwood, & Jantzi, 2008; Sebastian et al., 2017). This research has led to the creation of frameworks for developing leaders and constructs identifying effective leadership practices (Leithwood, 2012; Murphy et al., 2006; Sebring et al., 2006), but very little research has been done to investigate the relationship between prior roles and principal performance. Research designed to focus on the professional background of effective principals, the relationship of how prior …

Structural And Technological Complex Of Methods For Processing Satellite Images, Rasul Zairovich Shamsiev, Zair Ziyaevich Shamsiev
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Decoding satellite images involves hundreds of automated methods. These methods are included in the modules of many well-known software tools for processing satellite images. To solve specific problems of identifying individual natural or man-made objects, there is a problem of choosing a method and means of data processing. The choice of methods depends on the scope of their application, different data are selected, for example, high-and low-resolution images, corresponding cartographic or other types of data.
To solve this problem, a structural and technological complex processing method is proposed. Since the initial processing of images is followed by thematic processing by …

Psychology Faculty Publications
In 2018, we delivered a symposium on publishing with undergraduate coauthors in the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research (Fallon, 2018a; Fallon and Domenech Rodríguez, 2018a,b; Fallon and Scisco, 2018; McCabe and Mendoza, 2018). Based on our collective experience, we identified three common challenges: effectively selecting, managing, and engaging students throughout the publication process. We use our perspectives from different institutions (i.e., small liberal arts colleges, mid-sized regional universities, and a large research university) and evidence from past research to provide strategies to successfully meet these challenges. Ultimately, the actionable strategies we describe …

Human Resource Management Practices For Public School Principals: Recruitment, Selection, And Development, David E. Atherton
Human Resource Management Practices For Public School Principals: Recruitment, Selection, And Development, David E. Atherton
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
Increasing complexities of educational contexts intensify the importance of hiring effective principals and using systematic support to shift from manager to instructional leader. Using a systematic framework of support is responsive and adaptive to contextual and personnel variables affecting principal human resource management (HRM). It was not known what HRM practices districts used to recruit, select, and develop principals in Oregon public school districts. Using a qualitative methodology, a descriptive case study surveyed (using Farr’s, 2004 and Van de Water’s, 1987 instruments) and interviewed (using Hensley, Kracht, & Strange’s, 2013 interview protocol) district administrators, triangulating with document analysis of 2016‒17 …

Objectives We examined the potential influence of both sample selection effects and Hawthorne effects in the behavioural HIV Prevention Trial Network 068 study, designed to examine whether cash transfers conditional on school attendance reduce HIV acquisition in young South African women. We explored whether school enrolment among study participants differed from the underlying population, and whether differences existed at baseline (sample selection effect) or arose during study participation (Hawthorne effect). Methods We constructed a cohort of 3889 young women aged 11-20 years using data from the Agincourt Health and socio-Demographic Surveillance System. We compared school enrolment in 2011 (trial start) …

The Impact Of Group Selection On Student Performance And Satisfaction, Sakthi Mahenthiran, Pamela Rouse
Pamela J. Rouse
Investigates whether the performance and attitudes of students could be improved by giving them some control over the group selection process. Groups were formed either by randomly combining paired friends or by randomly assigning all students. Students completed a group exercise and a group case. The dependent variables were the project grades and student satisfaction. Student satisfaction was measured using a questionnaire. The results show that attitudes of students were more positive when they were allowed to choose a single friend in the group. The project grades were significantly higher when students were paired, and this result was true regardless …

A Holistic Review Of The Medical School Admission Process: Examining Correlates Of Academic Underperformance, Terry D. Stratton, Carol L. Elam
Behavioral Science Faculty Publications
Background : Despite medical school admission committees' best efforts, a handful of seemingly capable students invariably struggle during their first year of study. Yet, even as entrance criteria continue to broaden beyond cognitive qualifications, attention inevitably reverts back to such factors when seeking to understand these phenomena. Using a host of applicant, admission, and post-admission variables, the purpose of this inductive study, then, was to identify a constellation of student characteristics that, taken collectively, would be predictive of students at-risk of underperforming during the first year of medical school. In it, we hypothesize that a wider range of factors than …
The Four Year Experience: Career Search Self-Efficacy Of New Graduates, Heather Maietta
The Four Year Experience: Career Search Self-Efficacy Of New Graduates, Heather Maietta
Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development
Abstract
The author examines the relationship between the degree of participation in a mandatory, credit-bearing, four-year career development program and career search self-efficacy of college graduates using the Career Search Efficacy Scale (CSES). Solberg, Good, & Nord (1994) define career search self-efficacy as an individuals’ efficacy expectations regarding their ability to perform important activities associated with career search and selection. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlations, and regression analyses were performed. Results indicated there was a relationship between participation in a career development program and career search self-efficacy. Discussion of findings and recommendations for future research are provided.

Upjohn Institute Working Papers
While previous research has documented how the Kalamazoo Promise, the most prominent and generous place-based college scholarship program, increased enrollment in Kalamazoo Public Schools, this paper qualifies and quantifies the characteristics of students who were induced to enter—or stay—in the district. In particular, it analyzes the origins and destinations, socioeconomic composition, and school-level sorting behavior associated with student flows around the time of the Promise announcement. These dimensions are more subtle than changes in the volume of students or measures of their individual success, but they are equally important to understand for communities exploring the feasibility of place-based scholarships as …

Adverse Selection And Incentives In An Early Retirement Program, Kenneth T. Whelan, Ronald G. Ehrenberg, Kevin F. Hallock, Ronald L. Seeber
Ronald G. Ehrenberg
We evaluate potential determinants of enrollment in an early retirement incentive program for non-tenure-track employees of a large university. Using administrative record on the eligible population of employees not covered by collective bargaining agreements, historical employee count and layoff data by budget units, and public information on unit budgets, we find dips in per-employee finance in a budget unit during the application year and higher recent per employee layoffs were associated with increased probabilities of eligible employee program enrollment. Our results also suggest, on average, that employees whose salaries are lower than we would predict given their personal characteristics and …

Training Self-Assessment And Task-Selection Skills: A Cognitive Approach To Improving Self-Regulated Learning, Danny Kostons, Tamara Van Gog, Fred Paas
Faculty of Social Sciences - Papers (Archive)
For self-regulated learning to be effective, students need to be able to accurately assess their own performance on a learning task and use this assessment for the selection of a new learning task. Evidence suggests, however, that students have difficulties with accurate self-assessment and task selection, which may explain the poor learning outcomes often found with self-regulated learning. In experiment 1, the hypothesis was investigated and confirmed that observing a human model engaging in self-assessment, task selection, or both could be effective for secondary education students' (N=80) acquisition of self- assessment and task-selection skills. Experiment 2 investigated and confirmed the …

The Group Selection Questionnaire: Discriminant Outcomes And Effectiveness, Jeffrey Lee Elder
The Group Selection Questionnaire: Discriminant Outcomes And Effectiveness, Jeffrey Lee Elder
Theses and Dissertations
The Group Selection Questionnaire (GSQ; Cox et al., 2004) is a measure that has been developed to facilitate clinical decisions about a client's readiness for group psychotherapy. The GSQ has demonstrated an ability to predict which clients will experience a reduction in distress through the use of group psychotherapy. This dissertation examines the Group Selection Questionnaire's ability to measure client characteristics that predict the client's ability to benefit from receiving group psychotherapy compared to the ability to benefit from receiving another form of treatment, such as individual or a combination of individual and group psychotherapy, as measured by improved scores …

The Relationship Between Admission Credentials And The Success Of Students Admitted To A Physics Doctoral Program, Teresa Wilkerson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The researcher developed this study based on the Hardgrave, et al. (1993)statement that for a doctoral student, it was "more than just standardized scores, previous academic performance, and past work experience ultimately affects whether the candidate will be successful in the program" (p. 261). This study examined both the subjective and quantifiable aspects of application materials to a physics doctoral program to explore potential relationships between the credentials presented in the application and the ultimate success of the admitted students. The researcher developed questions with the goals of addressing the problem of attrition in doctoral programs and gaining a better …
The Factors Influencing The College Choice Of The Leaving Certificate Cohort, Patrick O Sullivan
The Factors Influencing The College Choice Of The Leaving Certificate Cohort, Patrick O Sullivan
Theses
This thesis examines the factors that influence the college choice and decision making behaviour adopted by Leaving Certificate Students choosing third level colleges in tertiary education. It attempts to understand the decision making process and associated influences that affect students when considering a third level college. The position adopted for this study is that of a consumer behaviour perspective.
Whether or not the potential students operate a systematic process, logically thinking throughout each step, is worthy of research. Secondary research confirms the many variables influencing the decision-making process, particularly in the USA and UK. However, in-depth knowledge regarding the criteria …
